As you have already pre cleared INS/Customs at Dublin you arrive as a domestic passenger so no need to pick it up at Charlotte, it will be cleared all the way through to SFO- free luggage allowance one suitcase for whole trip is 23kgs max(coach)

Yikes! Don't do it! Change airlines now or suffer the same callous treatment we had on that route. We had tickets from Dublin to Philadelphia, connecting to New York City. Halfway over the Atlantic one of the engines failed and we had to put down in Gander, Newfoundland, Canada. We were on the ground there for eight hours with no word about when we were going to leave. When we finally got to Philadelphia we were treated rudely by the counter staff and the airline failed to help us make our connection. We ended up paying $1000 to fly out of Philadelphia to get back home to San Francisco. Beware, they do not care about you as a passenger. You're nothing but a number, a butt in the seat.

Was your PHL-SFO on a separate ticket?

They were supposed to get us from PHL to NYC LaGuardia in time to make a Southwest Air connection to SFO. That flight was so badly delayed that we had no other option but to hop off the US Air flight, retrieve our luggage, and book the Southwest flight straight from PHL.

___

so your SW flight was a seperate ticket? I doubt any other airline would have been able to help you in a similar situation if you book two seperate flights so close together.

Look, I don't think you're getting this. US Air had the responsibility to get us to New York on the day we left Dublin. They were not only unable to do that, they also failed in their duty to get us to New York the next day to make our flight out of there. Is that clear enough?

But you're not getting the fact that if you book two seperate tickets and your first flight is delayed you are classed as a no show for the second flight. this would be the case with just about all airlines out there.

As you've said, US have a responsibility for getting you from A-B; but don't have a responsibility for you missing a seperate connection. Is that clear enough?

Thanks. If you aren't a US Air employee you are certainly exhibiting the same care and sensitivity.
