Minoan Air From Oxford

Anyone else had a disappointment with Minoan Air services from Oxford?

I booked for a flight to Edinburgh for the end of July back in March, and they have just said that they can't honour it die to 'technical reasons' - what sort of technical reason can they foresee three weeks in advance of the plane taking off?

I suspect that either they don't have the planes they need or that the flight wasn't going to be profitable for them.

Never heard of them but a major technical issue requiring new parts could easily put a plane out of commission for 3 weeks or more and they probably don't have spare aircraft like the major carriers to bring in a replacement.

No It was booked for the Friday 19th at 07:30...

...which was confirmed as a valid booking and money taken in March - they e-mailed on Sunday morning to tell me of the 'technical problem'.

Not impressed with an airline that is no doubt trying to build a loyal local following.

They may not have a spare aircraft of their own, but there are plenty of companies out there that specialise in providing spare aircraft to companies that don't have their own. No airline in its right mind would stop flying for months while waiting for a spare part

They have announced a closure of all routes from Oxford taking effect the first week in August, this was never a viable plan in the first place.

A shame that this service is stopping, I've used them for several weeks, great friendly service and within 1/2 hour of leaving home, I'm parked up, checked in and thru security. Granted the plane wasn't the newest and I won't fancy using in bad weather as a bit bumpy, but the speed of service was excellent. Unforeunately I had to stop using them as I needed to travel up on Tuesday and come back Wednesday's, so now I'm travelling down to Luton (joy) using EasyJet.

There is a note on the Minoan website

"After 5 months of faultless services, 99.75% punctuality, nearly 500 flights, more than 6.000 carried passengers and well over one million pounds that were invested in the operation, Minoan regrets to announce the termination of its schedule services from Oxford to Edinburgh and Dublin, due to our disagreement with Oxford Airport management on specific terms of cooperation deemed imperative for the viability of our flights.

Following the fall out of our discussions, the airport had been given advance notice of our intentions thus allowing adequate time to explore all avenues to replace the carrier with another operator."

Hell hath no fury like an airline that must have "the last word".

Just wonder what Oxford Airport's side of the story is.

I wonder what the specific terms of co-operation were........

Reduction of landing fees a la Ryanair perhaps ?

There's not a lot of detail in any of the reports of this, but Insidermedia seems to have the most. It sounds like Minoan Air wanted money to help with a marketing campaign and Oxford airport didn't want to play ball. See insidermedia.com/insider/south-east/94631-ox…

My interpretation of that is that if they're willing to write off a £750k investment Minoan were losing money faster than they're willing to admit.
