Alaska carry-on dimensions strictly enforced (SBA>PVR)

Apologies if this has been covered, I tried a few different search terms and nothing came up.

We're trying carry-on for our first time and bought luggage

costco.com/…22.product.100033222.html

that seems to fit the requirements, just barely.

Does anyone have any direct knowledge, or rather experience, with how aggressively Alaska polices their carry-on baggage dimensions?

Don't have extensive travel experience, so trying to figure this ahead of time if possible.

-thanks for looking.

just assume that every airline will enforce their carryon rules and pack accordingly.

then u will have no problems.

just because one or more passengers got away with being overweight/size on a particular airline doesn't mean you will.

so asking about enforcement is always fraught with danger.

The 21" model fits well inside the Alaska restrictions. Assuming you don't try to overstuff the bag you should not have any issues.

The 27" is just plain too big.

All airlines have dimensional rules in place for a reason, space, safety, etc. The decision on how strict to enforce them lies with the gate agent for your flight. And for everyone who claims they took an oversized bag onboard, there is someone bemoaning the fact that their bag was gate checked. Follow the rules and everything will be good.

Thanks everyone! We're only taking the 21"-- couldn't find a way to post the info for that one alone. Sorry about that. And no, we're not attempting to circumvent Alaska guidelines (we'd already checked them out), just unsure how to proceed due to inexperience--up to this point we always checked luggage.

As you stated that you are inexperienced travellers I will add that the 21" bag is actually 23" long which although it does fit inside Alaska's guidelines is a very big bag to carry on. If everyone on the plane tries to bring a bag this big there won't be enough room and some people will need to check their carry on at the gate.

There are several sad stories posted here from people who were not prepared for the possibility that their carry on could be gate checked and were parted from their medication, money and valuables.

If you are taking any valuables, medication, money, passports etc make sure they are in your personal item (handbag or small laptop bag) which needs to be small enough to go under your seat.

If you are travelling with other airlines please check their carry on limits as well as the Alaska limits are extremely generous and that suitcase would be too big for most airlines in other parts of the world.

Have a wonderful trip! :-)

Thanks harley b we anticipated that and consequently decided on taking a smallish purse for my wife and a HST style valise (minus the illegal pharmaceuticals) for me seems to cover most contingencies for the nine nights. We shall see!
