Long lines at immigration at JFK?

What is going on at immigration at JFK? Over the past few weeks friends are reporting a 2 hour wait to get their US passports checked!

JFK has always had long lines (depending on arrivals at any time) but the situation has not been helped by recent US budget cuts which has increased wait times at JFK and other airports.

Unless the US is your destination, avoid flying via this country for fear of missing your connecting flight.

Miami is no better.

The queuing time can also be dependent on how many planes arrive at the same time as you. At the quickest you are looking at 45-60 mins.

Yep, it,s as if they don't know how many passengers are arriving on any given day.

Not a very good image for the 'worlds largest economy

I do not think it is sequestration. The lines have been getting longer and longer since before that little "game" TSA has cutbacks and the comptrollers had cutbacks but not immigration.

The USA has lost all perspective on airport passport control. It takes me longer to enter the US, as a US citizen, than almost anywhere else I have traveled. Sequestration may make it worse, but it was bad already. There's no such thing as transiting, so even people flying through the US to somewhere else have to pass through US immigration.

If you fly internationally a lot, sign up for Global Entry.

As US citizens you are now experiencing what all other nationalities have been putting up with for many years.
