Yes. Qantas and Emirates now have a tie up with each other. So you could book with one of them but end up flying with the other.

Yes, you will be flying on a QANTAS A380.

HAving not experienced them I can't comment, but others will tell you their experience.

If you're on a Qantas flight I have a feeling you aren't allowed to pre-book your seats like you can with Emirates.

There was a thread on here about it last week but I can't recall the title, sorry - maybe someone else can?

Where does it say you can't pre-select your seats? I've yet to be on a Qantas operated flight where I couldn't preselect a seat.

There are 5 EK flights a day out of London to Dubai.

Only one of these is operated by QF.

If you prefer to fly on EK metal then elect one of the earlier flights.

I'm (not) surprised by the fact that QF make you pay for seat allocation. They did stress in the lead up to this partnership, that whenever there were differences in level of service offered by the two airlines that the higher level of service would apply.

Apparently paying to pre select seats isn't considered a lower level of service than getting it free.

So it's about getting it free, not about whether you can preselect seats?

I must have completely misread it.

Ek do not charge a fee to pre-select seats. That was my point.

So - to the OP: QF will charge you a fee for pre-selecting your seat - EK do not charge a fee.
