Hawaiian Airlines baggage dimensions

We are flying from JFK to HNL tomorrow and my boyfriend is freaking out about the bag dimensions. We will be doing carry-on bags only.

How stringent are these people at the gates/flight attendants? For reference, we’ve been on Jetblue flights and our carryon bags never had problems. With comparison to Hawaiian airways, the overhead compartment measurements seem smaller/strange. See below for the requirements.

Jetblue: To fit in the overhead bin, your item must not exceed:

for our Airbus A320: 26 inches (66 centimeters) length x 18 inches (45.72 centimeters) width x 12 inches (30.48 centimeters) height

for our EMBRAER 190: 24 inches (60.96 centimeters) length x 16 inches (40.64 centimeters) width x 10 inches (25.4 centimeters) height

Hawaiian Airlines: Size Limit 22" height, 14" length, 9" depth (45 linear inches)

The height is 22” and length is 14”. We even called Hawaiian Airlines and they confirmed these dimensions. We really don’t have to check in our bags since it does cost money and we fear of losing our stuff but it’s a bit too late to get new bags. Kind of stressful for him I suppose. Any advice or opinions or anything? Thanks!

If it says 22 x 14 that is what you can have, any larger you can be asked to check it and pay, not worth the risk if your bags are two big. Most airlines have differant size regulations, all are posted on each airlines websites.

Usually it's the length that's longer than the height. Most bags are like that unless you can find a bag otherwise like that loll

Freaking out because you want to avoid checked bag fees? Our carry-on bags weren't checked, but we were just on an interisland flight. I'd think that flights to HNL would be full, so overhead bins could quickly fill. Considering all the money you'll spend on your trip, I'd "splurge" on at least one checked bag so you don't have to skimp on clothes, and other items. Buying anything in Hawaii can be expensive. And if you decide to buy something like some good Hawaiian rum, or other liquid, you'll need to put that in a checked bag.
