Best way to plan a kinda around the world travel.

Heya guys,

I'm a student and thinking about going on a trip for 3 months in the summer months. I'm on a very tight budget so the cheaper the better.

I want to travel 5 weeks with a friend and the continue by myself and maybe volunteer in Asia.

My friend wants to go to South America (Argentina, Mexico etc) and this will be the first 5 weeks. And then I want to go to Asia (Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, Combodia, Maalysia etc) I have volunteering placement there I want to consider.

What would be the best way to plan this? I've been looking at round the world companies or would it be possible to plan my own way?

Thanks

Try both: DIY and RTW specialists. The RTW specialists tend to know which airlines have "bargain" rates between points A & B - and sometimes which ones can be combined for through fares. On the other hand, depending on where you want to go, you can do a better job yourself by booking low cost carriers directly on their respective Websites. This all works best if you are flexible on your exact destinations (and maybe willing to go from an airport or seaport to your preferred destination by train or the like). While doing this, consider which areas can be most fruitfully (giving you the best pricing and/or travel experiences) done on the ground - by train, bus, boat, etc.

After a bunch of trial and error, you should know where, and how, you want to go. If you want to go this summer I'm not sure if you have enough time to do all the background work in time. But no harm in trying..

As you are a student try STA travel. They cater to students and those under 23 (i think) and will have a lot of experience in organising this sort of travel. I find Trailfinders to cater more towards the mid to luxury end of travel, rather than budget.

Hi, another recommendation for Trailfinder, get a coffee and sit with somebody in the shop and tell them what you want to do. Booking this way you sometimes get free internal flights etc.

Enjoy your trip.

Thanks guys for the recommendations.

I will try to look into planning my own (probably won't have time due to exams and projects) and the RTW companies.

Does anyone know the flight companies that are cheap around them areas?

Thanks

It is a sad truth that the vast majority of travel agents all have virtually the same price. If you find an agency that is way below anybody else, worry and leave well alone. You are going on the trip of a lifetime, book with a reputable travel agency, Trailfinders are great, heard good things about STA also.

I had a really good experience planning an RTW trip.

I went in with three lists: one with countries I really, really wanted to visit, another with countries I really would like to see if it could be managed without having to raise my budget a lot and a third that would be nice if they fitted and didn't cost any more.

I found there were people at Trailfinders who had actually heard of the places I wanted to go (another agency I went had no idea what I meant when I said I wanted to go to Palau)

They also gave me very good advice about finding the right alliance to fly with to come out with the lowest cost.

IME, a first rate company and RTW specialists.

Hi there. I would recommend booking yourself if you have time and know a kittle bit about bookings and airlines.

Try AirAsia, airasia X for SE Asia and Aerobus, Volaris, Aerolineas Argentinas for SA
