I am considering a credit card that gives you air miles but not really sure how they work. Any advice or suggestions on a good one?

If you are looking for a branded credit card or information on credit card loyalty programs, I'd search on these phrases in google (or similar). There are many travel blogs, way too many to list, that have information based on your travel or spending behaviors. How most of them work is that you receive some credit (miles, points) for each dollar spent on the card, anywhere - and then some offer "bonuses" when you use the card at certain brands or vendors (like the airline brand, for example). In most programs the points automatically transfer over to your frequent flier account, so that needs to be considered.

flyertalk.com's forums are a great resource for this.

You need to provide more information so that the best one can be identified for your needs.

How much do you fly per year and where to? Longhaul? Shorthaul? Premium cabins? Which airlines do you travel most? Are you looking to use miles to upgrade? Free tickets altogether? How flexible do you need to be? Do you carry a balance on your CCs ever? etc.

There are a multitude of questions that could determine which credit card is best for you. I'd suggest answering the above questions before going to Flyertalk where you'll be torn to shreds without providing the basics first. The people over there can be very friendly as long as you don't ask questions without providing any information.
