Is there a way of finding the reason for a flight delay back in 2010 we had a 7 hour delay on a thomas cook flight to goa the only reason given was the plane was late arriving

Ask Thomas Cook. But if you're thinking of claiming your €600 compensation under EU261 don't expect them to be very responsive.
Edited: 10:11 am, February 08, 2013If this about EU261, is it possible to claim 3 years after? There must be some kind of limitations period...
Statute of limitations in the UK is 6 years.
You can claim, but the odds of being successful are little to none.

Without knowing the exact reason for the OP's delay, are you assuming that the delay may fall under Extraordinary Circumstances? Otherwise your assertion is surely only an opinion rather than fact.
If the claim proceeds down the legal route, the odds are rather better than "little to none", indeed I would go so far as to say that legal claimants are successful in rather more than 50% of cases in my experience.
I will admit that airlines do not often pay up without a fight. The odds are usually determined by how strongly the passenger feels and how much time they are prepared to put into their claim.
Am i alone in thinking this whole flight delay compensation thing is getting ridiculous ??
Im not having a go at the OP in particular, and I realise a delay can be frustrating, but everyone seems to be jumping on the bandwagon just lately.
The delay was 3 years ago. Let it go and move on
No you are not alone
I agree, let it go
In fairness to the OP, we have no fact to confirm his request was EU261 motivated! This is only an assumption.
It is always about the money, but if not, it is still about the money
