Flights to Perth Australia from London

Help please with pros and cons for stop overs on a return flight to Perth Australia from London next year. We are inexperienced travelers going for a family wedding but wishing to make the most of a holiday of a life-time, suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you, Sarah

stopovers of less than a few days are a waste of time if u think it will help with jetlag.

and airport procedures plus transport to/from city centres on short stopovers are also a PITA.

fly direct and get it over and done with.

It really depends on the airline you choose and that will affect fares. You really only have a choice of Singapore, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Dubai or Bangkok. You really need to check with your airline as often a stopover will break the trip and costs can go up substantially, especially if there are a few of you. However both Hong Kong and Singapore are great family destinations with loads to see and do in a compact area. Start with your airline and see what they have to offer.

Singapore Airlines offers cheap-ish stopovers in SIN - details on their website. Make it a 3-4 day break at least to gain any benefit.

Thailand is very nice for a stopover

- Thai Airways have flights from Bangkok to Perth

The fares that you can obtain would make a big difference. From a pure comfort / service level Singapore Airlines are excellent. You could do Singapore itself as a stopover going down and then on the way back take a trip from Singapore to nearby beaches / islands. Either using some flight deal through Singapore Airlines or if that is pricey you can use the good range of budget airlines from Singapore that offer cheap regional fares.

If you wanted some beach / island time:

Example average flight times from Singapore:

Phuket - 1 hr 40

Koh Samui - 1 hr 50

Langkawi - 1 hr 25

Penang - 1 hr 10

Do watch time of year and weather varies in particular for those mentioned above.

We are also looking at this trip and having travelled twice before to AUS , we can recommend a stop-over enroute, kuala lumpur or singapore would be your best bet as the onward flight to PERTH is less than from some other stops, we have been pricing singapore airlines and their prices are very good at the moment.

Get a flight that arrives in the afternoon, so once you get out of the airport and settle, it'll be nearly bed time and you can get into our time zone.

FYI, Singapore Airlines has 3 flights a day into Perth ... and Emirates are starting their 3rd daily flight soon... so besides Qatar, Cathay Pacific, Malaysia Airlines, Thai Airways, Air Asia, China Southern and Garuda .. you have heaps of flights to choose from.

Bangkok. Stay a week to stop the jet lag and either travel north for a mellow, cheap week or go south to some of the less populated islands. It's easy to get round and beautiful. Either that or Malaysia. Is great too. Just don't fly china southern. EVER. Happy travels

I'm with lien on this.

Unless you particulalr wish to see another city or country, then fine.

But if the stopover is purely for the sake of breaking a journey, don't bother, it's a waste of time.

I am firmly in the other 'camp' i really cannot see the joy in a 36 hour journey, when you can enjoy a few days stopover , see another country for the cost of 2 night's in a hotel .If you have limited then do it in one go , but we go for 5-6 weeks and can afford the time. Before anyone queries 36 hours......the flight is about 22 hours, travel to the airport and waiting for plane is 4-6 hours, then another 2 hours the other end before you get to your hotel, and then if you arrive in the morning another 3-4 hour wait for room to be ready,it all adds up.
