Scary stuff. They'd need to give me a stiff drink after one of those landings!
I've had an experience like that first plane. A Delta 757 aborted landing at Newark circa 1997. One wheel touched down, we lurched left and then the pilot applied thrust and we took off and tried again.
Once you've experienced it - and survived - you're not nervous again. :)
Bilbao is an airport with a very difficult and turbulent approach.Easyjet pilots have to be specially briefed to go there, and Iberia wrote off a 2 day old Airbus 320 after an extremely heavy landing caused by a severe downdraft.
OMG that was dreadful. Very frightening.
Probably not a great link to send to some of the nervous flyer posts we get here from time to time.
One of my few flights with EasyJet, we landed at Gatwick as a storm was blowing in. We were the last to land before they closed the airport. I remember being able to see down the runway as we were about to touch down.
A very scary video.
i was very happy to survive a landing at Schiphol in a KLM SAAB340 on a windy day in the 90s.....

Very good pilots.
