Help with around the world route

My husband and I are planning a mega trip at the end of Feb 2013.

We'd like to go to: India, Nepal, Malaysia,Thailand,China, Indonesia,Australia, New Zealand and hopefully Brazil, Peru, possibly Argentina. When you break it down it's only 16 weeks and we have 11 destinations already! Bit mad! My questions are:

1) Are there countries that I could leave out where the experience will be more or less the same?

2) What would be the best route to take? We were thinking of starting of in India, doing south-east asia/australasia then s. america?

3)As internal flights in s.e asia are quite cheap would it really be more cost effective to get a RTW ticket from say, STA etc?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

For a major trip like this I'd start by visiting one of the specialist travel agents such as Trailfinders who I'm sure will be able to give you lots of advice on both countries and airline options.

Agree with Tom, contact or visit Trailfinders for some good solid advice.

I think your itinerary is way to ambitious, concentrate on just one or two countries. You can't see India or China in one week.

Planning is everything on a trip like this.

I would omit Australia and spend more time in New Zealand.

A world tour in my view (having done one) is more about seeing a bit of a lot of things rather than the contrary. I don't think you are too ambitious. But definitively would ask for the help of a specialist. One of the things you need to manage is obviously the weather (monsoon in India, Autumn and Winter in the southern hemisphere.

While you'd loose a day, you could also consider starting the other way round with the Rio Carnival (Feb 8th-12th)...

I too would travel east to west ... you gain times, rather than lose it ...

Nepal and China will be very cold in February ... it is summer in Australia, New Zealand and South America.

I would start by flying into Rio ... then to New Zealand, Australia, then up to Bali, Singapore, Thailand and then home.

Too many cities, means too many flights and they waste a whole day.

Relax and enjoy what you do see ... and please don't forget the west coast of Australia .. we have beautiful beaches, sunsets over the Indian Ocean and in 3 hours from Perth you can be by a pool in Bali.
