Delay Compensation

Does EU261 apply if you are flying NRT-LHR on VS, with a flight booked entirely with flying club miles?

(Not flying for a few months, just interested if there is a distinction between cash and reward bookings)

Since Virgin is a British airline, the answer is yes. EU261 makes no distinction between cash and reward bookings. I recently received compensation for a reward booking on a cancelled flight.

EU 261 will apply to all EU community carriers - the key as to whether any compensation would be due is the cause of the delay as the airline is not obliged to provide financial compensation if the delay is due to exceptional circumstances e.g. adverse weather.

Thanks.

I'm aware that it depends on the cause, was just interested if they make a distinction between cash and reward bookings

Intrepid,

261 DOES apply to (frequent flyer) award bookings. See Article 3 (Scope) paragraph 3 -

"3. This Regulation shall not apply to passengers travelling free of charge or at a reduced fare not available directly or indirectly to the public. However, it shall apply to passengers having tickets issued under a frequent flyer programme or other commercial programme by an air carrier or tour operator."
