Indian National UK Transit Visa

Hi,

I'm an Indian citizen. I study in the US. This summer I will be travelling from San Francisco to Madrid and later from Barcelona to New Delhi. Both flights cause me to transit for roughly 7 hours in London Heathrow. I will also need to change terminals at Heathrow. Does anyone have advice on whether I will need an Airside Transit Visa?

Thanks!

Siddharth

Don't trust advice give on internet forums. Ask ask your nearest UK Embassy/Consulate.

One of the options under "Why do you want to come to the UK" question is "Transit"

Direct airside transit visa is what you need staying airside and visitor in transit visa if your leaving airside.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the input. I did look up the website and even called the helpline...I haven't got much clarity from it, primarily because there are SO MANY clauses under which DATV can be waived! That's why I sent one here to see if anyone has had any experience with this. I think I'll also call my airline.

Start here: …homeoffice.gov.uk/visas-immigration/… If you hold an Indian passport but have been living in the USA, you'll need a visa.

Have you sorted out your Schengen visa yet?

Siddarth, I would make other checks, including a visa agent in the US regarding transit in the UK.

Personally I find it ridiculous that you should have to apply for a visa, including an 11 page application** form AND having to travel to be fingerprinted, just for the privilege of riding a transit bus between terminals airside at Heathrow. If you do need to do this, look to see if another visa (such as a multi-year or multi-entry tourist visa) could be obtained for this and future visits if you have to go through that aggro.

** - even a Chinese visa application form is only 4-5 pages.
