Watch out for flight search engine "costjet" |
|
I booked a flight--I did not bid on a flight--but the email confirmation was not verification that I had a flight. Instead, this is what it said: "We will now review your request to ensure that the flight(s) and fare were fully confirmed by the airline(s). This process usually takes no more than 2 hours, but sometimes can take as long as 72 hours depending on the carrier(s)." What? I purchased a ticket at a price listed. If the costjet didn't have the ticket to sell it shouldn't have listed the price. I did NOT BID on a ticket. I contacted costjet and the person there told me that they were aware of the 'problem' but that the 'problem' was on the airline's side not theirs. That was fishy but I contacted the airline to verify this and it is NOT their problem and, guess what, I was right, it isn't. Now I can not get a flight to my destination (to visit my husband at a military base in US) because the tickets doubled in price since I PURCHASED a ticket from costjet. Do not use costjet! |

This is probably a consulidator. Promised you a fare and flight, now has to find the flight at that price. They should be more up front on their web site.

This is the same with any website if you look online people have bought at expedia, travelocity only to getthe dreaded call to say the tickets are not valid. All these companies are middle men so I think until you actually get tickets its up in the air.

CostJet is definitely a consolidator. As in a number of other online travel agencies, the nomenclature is inaccurate. They offer v inexpensive fares, but when pax choose to book through the agency, the airline may no longer offer that fare for that route and date. Rather than a travel agency, these online services are more or less electronic bucket shops, which were High Street versions of consolidators back in the days before we used dub dub double-you dot com for so many things. Many airlines offer the lowest fares available when booked directly with the airline. If something at a website looks too good to be true, it probably is, esp in the air ticket business. I do hope you can find a fare you can afford to get the chance to visit your husband.

CostJet seems to get its good fares by having a search engine that combines one-way trips into a round-trip, thereby getting the best fare for each leg, which seems legitimate. When you book your trip, you will sometimes be informed immediately that it is no longer available. If this does not occur, the site verifies with the individual airlines the availability and fare after you 'book' it. I have booked two trips with them recently and received confirmation (one of which I had to call them to receive after several days), but I have not taken the trips yet.

I had a similar experience. I purchased (what I thought) was a ticket with exact flight numbers, times, etc.. for a trip to overseas to see my family (a family member was terminally ill).. The cost was app. 800 USD. Two days later got an email that my ticket got "cancelled" - see copy of the email below. The number they provided to call does not even seem to be a valid number. Long story short, b/c I needed to fly a mere five days from now during Xmas, the ticket has, in the mean time, shot up to a whopping 2000 USD. MY ADVICE TO YOU: STAY AWAY FROM COSTJET AT ALL COST!!! MY ADVICE TO COSTJET: DO NOT SELL WHAT YOU DON'T ALREADY HAVE! I FIND THIS TO BE VERY UNETHICAL. here is the copy of the email I received: Dear Valued Client: It is urgent that you contact us immediately at 262-241-8963 we have been unable to confirm your airline reservations. There are many reasons why this may happen: o The flight was unable to be confirmed by the airline o The airline did not honor the fare that was shown o The seats were not available at time of ticketing o We have questions regarding the routing of itinerary It is important to note that you DO NOT have any flights booked, and your credit card WILL NOT be charged. Please be aware that there are still options available and that rebooking your reservations may be as simple as selecting a different flight or time of day. Contact one of our experienced Reservations Agents at 262-241-8963 and we will be happy to assist you. We would like to apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you, and hope to assist you with your travel needs in the future. Thank you for your business! I just want to reiterate what others have said about staying away from using costjet.com. I "booked" round trip tickets Sat 12/6/08 through costjet, then checked the airline's web site an hour later. Only my outbound flights showed there. I immediately called costjet, got no answer, and sent email. When I reached them, after a long wait, Mon 12/8, they said my credit card was being declined. I then got my cc company on the line with costjet, and had them try again. Costjet said the cc was still being declined, even though my credit card company was not even seeing a transaction attempt come to them. I believe there was nothing wrong with my cc, but, even if there was, costjet never notified me of such. As such, I had to spend $249 more for the same trip booked 2 days later, when fares had risen. I have since tried 4 times to get costjet to refund the difference, and they will not. They are very hard to get a hold of. I think they offer seats, and when, later, they can not deliver, they make up the "credit card declined" excuse. Do not use them.
