What does David Clarke mean by 'consolidation of our accounts'? I would like to think that the Seasons finance department have to be as careful with paperwork and deadlines as I have to be with my HMRC self-assessment.

A consolidation of financial accounts is a financial reporting technique that helps a firm summarize all operating data under a single set of financial statements in accordance with industry standards, accounting principles and regulations. This technique covers all subsidiaries, segments and areas of which a corporation owns more than 50 %.

On viewing the accounts you can see there are subsidiary companies used and although it may present more work at the year end, it does not excuse the amount of time that has lapsed since the last accounts were submitted.

Striking off action discontinued!

Cause has been shown why Seasons Holidays should not be struck off the register and accordingly no further action will be taken.

Pheew!!!

Have received a response from John McLellan, Commercial Director at Seasons (appears that his staff cannot spell his name or give his correct job title) as below:

"Thank you for your recent e-mail and highlighting a number of important issues regarding communication and also asking a question about your annual management fee.

If we first answer your management fee query you paid £490 for 2013 with the amount received by Seasons being £408 net of VAT. This represented a 2.5% increase on the previous year, less than RPI, which at the time the fee increase was agreed in 2012 stood at 2.9%. Similarly for 2014 we have attempted to be realistic with an increase applied of 3% and RPI currently standing at 3.3%.

With regard to your query on communication for a variety of reasons the e-mail newsletter was suspended a while ago and it had been expected this would have been either reinstated or that resort news and member updates would have been provided by way of the Seasons website. As you identify this hasn’t yet happened but it does remain our intention for this to take place.

Turning to your specific question concerning Laugharne Park we are pleased to say the redevelopment project remains at the forefront of our thoughts and plans. We obtained the outline planning permission to redevelop the site at the beginning of 2012 and since then have been concentrating on the detailed application. Given the size of the scheme it is taking longer than we would like to push forward however we are employing first class planning specialists and legal advisors and are hopeful, with the constructive support of the Carmarthen local authority, that we will achieve the detailed consent in the short term. We can then be more precise on the timeframe for the development work itself to begin.

We of course continue to undertake smaller refurbishment and general maintenance work across the whole of the Seasons portfolio of resorts on a day to day basis. Of the more significant project work completed over the past 12-24 months the Club Tahiti refurbishment has now been concluded and the complete refurbishment of nine of the old traditional cottages at Whitbarrow Village has also been undertaken.

We remain committed to providing an enjoyable holiday experience for all of our members and will continue the investing in our resorts on a phased basis.

Thank you again for your feedback on the communication received by members of late. I will ensure this is passed on to the Seasons board and also to SOCC."

"we are employing first class planning specialists". I am not convinced on this count, an outline planning application is to establish the principle of development, as buildings are already there this principle has already been established! Even if the application is for more units than is currently on the site it would have been more economical and less time consuming to apply for full planning in the first instance. In many cases the level of information required for an outline application is much the same as for a full planning application but you are having to pay an agent to collate and submit two applications instead of one!

Hi,

I think if you want to get rid of it you will practically have to give it away. There are companies that specialise in selling timeshares, however the resale market is flooded with scam artists so be very careful and never give anyone any up front fees as they will take your money and then probably not bother selling your timeshare.

You could advertise on ebay, give as much detail as you can - how much the maintenance fees are, what times of year holidays can be taken and why you are selling and start the bidding really low. Remember the perks of cheap breaks or getting more weeks through Interval cannot be sold on with the timeshare so to avoid come back don't promote these as part of the deal.

Do you have grown up children, if so maybe they would like it? The people most likely to buy will be family members, friends or people who have had experience with Seasons and know they are not timeshare scammers. If it is transferred to family members Seasons should honour all the original perks.

The other possibility if you struggle to sell is pick a really popular week/resort, book it and then hire it out for the cost of your maintenance fee, if you can book a peak week in the UK you could get this fee back easily. Alternatively you could try talking to Seasons and see if they will let you relinquish it as it is really not worth anything to sell, they have always been very accommodating with me and given your circumstances they may be sympathetic.

Good luck.
