 Interval International 2010 Resort Directory

I just received my II 2010 Resort Directory, and I am wondering if I am the only one who thinks that they have made it practically useless by removing the text describing each resort. They have actually reduced the space given to each resort by half. There is one small photo, name and contact information, and a list of icons to describe amenities. They say, "So, explore this Resort Directory and let your imagination whisk you away." You will certainly need a vivid information now.

I know the web site has more information, but there is something about the book format that makes is pleasant to thumb through. Customer Service first told me they were "going green" and then that it was to include all of the resorts , including those in the appendices (a small fraction.) I don't buy either of those explanations.

I think you had better get used to getting your "detailed" info off the net. It is going to happen a lot more and with e readers becoming more common and popular there will come a time where an old fashioned book is going to be come a rarity

I think you are right. To cut costs they are directing you to the automated service of the web site. They should just eliminate the Directory then because it is not very useful anymore. I am all over their web site.

In fact I sent the Interval International Customer Service an email yesterday through that web site. The auto reply says, "Thank you for your message. At this time we are experiencing an extremely high volume of emails. We will be responding to these emails in the order in which they are received. However, the response times may be slower than normal. If you have an urgent matter, please call us". That's not good customer service either.

I doubt it will make you feel any better, but you (and other II members) are not alone. RCI did the same thing with their catalog a couple of years ago. Really took most of the fun out of scanning for resorts. Their website is OK, but the information doesn't seem as convenient or complete as it did in their old-format catalog. We've begun printing out the info on resorts we may want to visit sometime in the future -- just because we think it's easier to compare the paper copies than to flip back and forth between web pages. So if "going green" really was their goal, it may have backfired because members may end up printing more pages.... But, as has also been pointed out, we probably better get used to it because they probably aren't going back -- or improving their customer service anytime soon either -- we think RCI has also been slipping in that category lately....

Customers lose again....but what else is new these days?

I just threw mine in the recycle bin. The internet is way better anyway.

I have found that they sell the Directories on eBay. Maybe the value of my 2009 edition just went up! I have two so maybe I should sell one. What's a good starting bid?
