Stay away from Apartment Escapes - NYC |
|
I booked an apartment through www.apartmentescapes.com in May 2007 for Dec. 28 - Jan. 2. I felt optimistic because I spoke with Daniel and he was very easy to reach by phone and gave me lots of info. I paid $250 down to reserve my spot and emailed to verify the apartment is was for and the time period before paying the deposit. On June 28, I emailed the company to see when I should expect to receive more information on my rental and was told they usually send everything out 2 weeks prior to arrival, along with the payment due. On Dec. 6, 2007, I emailed again just to confirm everything was okay with my reservations and was told "Its perfectly okay..Everything is confirmed" On December 19 (9 days before arrival), I still had not received anything so I called Daniel and he assured me once again everything was okay and he would get me something that evening or the next day. On Friday, December 21st, I still didn't receive anything so I tried to call, but didn't get an answer. Their website stated office hours were M-F 9-5, so I called back on Christmas Eve and was informed I can't pay until the owner of the apartment clicks on a link from apartment escapes accepting their payment, but was still assured that everything would be fine. Daniel also mentioned he had sent the link to the owner the previous week, which made me mad because this would have been less than two weeks before arrival before he even tried to pay the apartment owner. On Dec. 26, two days before arrival, I was informed it didn't look like my original apartment would work out, but he would get me another. I asked if it would be in the same building because we didn't want to be any further than our original location from where the ball would drop on New Years Eve. Daniel told me it would be in the same building and he would also get me pictures of the apartment. Wednesday evening I had a link for final payment request, however the new location was several more blocks away (not within walking distance) and there weren't any photos. I finally got ahold of Daniel at 10:30 AM on Thursday, Dec. 27th and told him we were not happy with the location and that would not work. He said once he got in the office (around noon) he would see if he could get something else. I tried to call numerous times and sent an email between 2:45 and 4:00. At 4 PM, I finally reached him and told him if he didn't have anything comprable to our original reservation by 5 PM, we weren't going to be able to go. Daniel did call me back, but he didn't have anything else, so although I should be on an airplane right now to NY, I'm writing this to forewarn others. |

Wow, that is awful!! Sadly, I'll have to add this to the collection. dolphinlover99 - I hope you get here eventually!! Did you get a refund at all?
|
No refund yet, but I will definitely be pursing getting even our airfare back. This was a big disappointment and watching the ball drop from my living room couch was another bummer!

Did you report them to the better business bureau? They have advertisements on craigslist and backpage.com. If you dont get your money back soon maybe you should post on there? If you did that you would get their attention for sure. Good luck!

Daniel Rosenthal is the most unprofessional and sleeziest businessman ever. He is president of apartmentescapes.com. He'll assure you that you have a property, NEVER follow up with you, and you get there and you're left on the streets. The (212) 631-0280 is his cell phone and he claims it's on 24/7 for emergencies and it's not. The worst experience of my life. And to top this off,,,,,he refuses to pay me back my full amount!! We didn't even stayed at his property! We had to sleep in the Surburban! All transactions are conducted through PayPal and I'm still waiting for my refund (3 months later). I HAVE YET TO CURSE HIM OUT & HE KEEPS HANGING UP THE PHONE ON ME. Im in the process of taking him to small claims court. PLEASE BEWARE!! He's very pleasant to talk to, but he's definitely a con artist! Here are some links to a list of other complaints. Do your research people! Maybe if I did, I wouldn't have gotten burned... tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g60763-i5-k1461288…

If you do a search for that phone number on google, it also displays links to "Selectnycapartments.com" and "Airsaversonline.com". It would seem this person operates under other names as well.

A little digging around reveals that in addition to apartmentescapes.com, this person also currently advertises online under the following names:

Daniel Rosenthal also operates a company called Airsaversonline.com I suggest that anyone who's had a problem with Daniel Rosenthal report it whenever you see them posted as well as advising the government about his obvious scam. That's what I'm doing.

The one and only time I used my credit card was with Airsaversonline/Daniel Rosenthal. I didn't get what I paid for. Around the same time I contacted my credit card company about this two unauthorized/fraudulent charges for airline tickets showed up on my statement. I can't yet prove that they did it but only my bank and I have the number. It was a brand new card. In other words, go anywhere else for travel!!!!

They're still advertising if anyone is looking for them:
