"The windmill (or Vyaturnata Melnitsa” in Bulgarian) is one of my favorite traditional Bulgarian restaurants (“mehana”) in the whole country. I visited it the first time in 2006 and re-visiting it 6 years later I was happy to found that the quality had stayed the same. I have visited dozens of mehana..."s over the years and the food quality does not vary that much; you’ll basically get good portions of home cooking. All the dishes I sampled at the Windmill were prepared just perfectly and far above the average level.
+ Traditional Bulgarian food made very, very well
+ Very friendly and professional service
+ Cozy atmosphere
+ Great sea views especially around sunset
+ Non-smoking side upstairs
- a bit remote location in the far end of the Sozopol peninsula. Worth the walk, though
- a bit expensive (on a Bulgarian scale) - but you’ll get your money’s worth
- In the end it is traditional food; no surprises, great displays of imagination or high cuisine on the menu...

"Many restarants were still closed but found the Urania to stand out amongst those that were. There is a terrace seating area which was only used lunchtime on warmer days and a terrace enclosed with transparent curtains and looking out to sea - the one evening we were given blankets although they we..."re not really necessary. The choice of food included items other than the standard fare including duck breast in a honey and balsamic glaze with green figs and mango! A little let down by the tired decor etc but hey what do you expect.
