"This is not the traditional chopped vinegar based BBQ that you might normally find in eastern NC but it's more of a smoked pulled pork, which was also great. We had pulled pork and pulled chicken sandwiches and both were excellent!! The pulled pork has a great smokey flavor to it and was very tend..."er and moist. The pulled chicken had more of a bbq sauce flavor to it and was also tender and moist. Okra was great and mac n cheese wasn't bad either. Brunswick stew was also very good. This would be a great place for large or small groups and the price was very reasonable. We went on a Sunday night so there wasn't a big crowd. I look forward to going back again! I wish we had tried it earlier in our stay because we might have eaten there more than once.

"My wife and I had just gotten into the Outer Banks and this was one of the first places we saw. The place is right around MP 3 on the sound side and has some of the better seafood prices I have seen around. I had a dozen oysters for only $5 and my wife had two fresh local soft shell crabs that were ..."awesome! They have some decent beers on tap that I had never heard of, so that was nice. The atmosphere is pretty laid back and there walls were covered with TVs so it would be fun to go to watch sports. All in all a great place for groups!

"You can spend more and you can find big city French influenced fusion if you want but the best local cuisine is at the Black Pelican. Its at around milepost 4 on the beach road so you have to seek it out. The fresh daily seafood is excellent and they usually have a variety of both fried and broile..."d items. They also usually have dishes with an interesting twist or sauce combination you might not have seen before. Its not fancy, in fact its built into a warehouse used by the Wright Brothers for the first flight and it doesn't have much of a view but locals flock to it because of the food. If you have someone in the party who doesn't like fish no problem. At lunch they do a great burger and for dinner there's always non fish entrees. Be sure to save room for some excellent Southern style desserts.
