"I love to dine at Abby's Place whenever I'm passing through scenic Essex. This charming, slightly off-the-beaten path harbor side charmer was the best kept secret in town until the word got out. Sweeping harbor views from the deck and the cheerful dining room are delightful. I like to start with ..."a chilled glass of white wine or one of their generous Bloody Mary's, then move onto a bowl of the Rhode Island clam chowder (who knew there were THREE kinds?) The simple but artful local dishes, salads, and entrees are nicely cooked and presented; enjoy a conversation about local sights with the amiable staff or with the proprietress herself, who is always handy when you're looking for a suggestion. I have just returned from Italy, where they've perfected the art of small plates, good wine, and conversation to extend the joy of a good meal out. City dwellers like me are used to getting pushed out on the sidewalk with the last bite, so for a nice change, I recommend that you stop by, relax...

"A little out of the way but oh so worth it! Limited parking in a busy marina despite marked parking spots, just be careful of moving objects, people, trailers etc. On a recent visit they were just getting the outside terrace ready so we were seated inside and near the bar. Great to see people really..." enjoy their meal and not be in a rush to eat and leave. The waitstaff appeared a little overwhelmed with the guests and felt rushing from table to table would help but it created a bit of a harried feeling to the diners. Slow down! The food is excellent and with a full bar, serving generously, this is an great choice for a meal to be remembered. Abby came out of the kitchen and welcomed a few regulars, nice touch! A daily special, listed on a small menu, is recommended but as the regular menu is not too large, anything you choose will be cooked to order.

"We've done the Dinner Train 4 or 5 times. It's perfect for anniversaries, Mothers Day gifts, etc. The dining cars are clean, romantic & beautifully restored. The prime rib is probably the best choice but have also enjoyed the stuffed chicken & salmon in the past. Today, the rolls were stale. Service..." is excellent, & of course the scenery, especially on the right (river) side makes the whole experience fun & memorable!
