"We were told that the food in Rio was going to be a little hit and miss. You can eat at a bunch of places that cost very little that have tasty and simple foods (i.e. salgados and cervejas by the beach or at a botequim) or pay a pretty low price for one of the all-you-can eat rodizios, but the "nic..."er" restaurants tended to be both mediocre and pricey or pretty darn good, but really pricey.
Out of all the recommended restaurants we went to, this was actually one of the most reasonably priced places and the food was delicious. The dishes are modern takes on Brazilian style food. The portion sizes are also quite generous. Very attentive and friendly staff, and a wide selection of entrees. I had the duck breast and it was excellent. Great caipirinhas too! And it's in a neighborhood with a lot going on, so it has a great vibe.

"The scene was hip and the place was packed on a Friday for lunch. The food was great as was the service with a higher than average price tag. Only had appetizers - duck croquetes and risotto balls with mozzarella and bother were small but well done. The drink was the standard brazilian Caipirinha..." and was also well done. (decent wine/liquor selection too) It is in a great location for people watching. Also, you can very easily jump from there to other restaurants or bars on the same street. (Rua Dias Ferreira) Within a few blocks there are 10+ other places too. It's a great area for doing some bar hopping at night. The street was safe and the people were kind.

When non-locals come to Mr Lam they simply don't get it, and as a tourist, I wouldn't either...very expensi..."ve, average food, limited menu...albeit outstanding room and service. However for those of us who live 3000 miles away from any other Chinese restaurant and for those of us who were weened on Empire Szechuan a-la Bright Lights, Big City...this place reminds us that we have arrived...we can eat Chinese food in an exotic city and be pampered while doing it. No where else I'd rather be in Rio than Mr Lam. To rank it #98 in Rio is not accurate and portrays an inherent flaw in the TA system...different perspectives must be taken with a perspective. How Zaza Bistro and Riso are rated as top 10 restaurants in Rio just shows how off the rating system can be. Eike Baptista is fighting to turn R...
