"Le Minaret is down an alley off the main street of Tozeur. There's a sign to it from the street, you walk up and turn right through a beautiful wooden door. As you walk up the hall you come to an outside seating courtyard, with low tables and cushions/sofas, under a palm tree and lovely soft light..."ing. Inside across the way is an indoor seating area, with lots of tables of different sizes. It is decorated in a twist on traditional Arabic design.
The owner doesn't speak much English, and we (group of five) don't speak much French, but he was welcoming and we were able to make ourselves understood. The menu is very reasonably priced and there's a good variety. We ate everything from vegetable cous cous to fish to camel steaks, and all of it was delicious, warm and fresh. We weren't hurried, but the service was good. For pudding four of us had the warm Fatima's Fingers made of chocolate, served with a splodge of beautiful ice cream. Very very nice. "Located centrally in town within a main Mosque complex, this gem stands out from all the places I dined in Tunisia; it's the only one that inspired me to go twice.
Reasonably priced, all the items I ordered were very tasty. I noticed that another reviewer noted the camel meat was tough and inedi..."ble, but that wasn't my experience. It was at least twice as tender as the camel I had had the previous evening.
The atmosphere is very relaxing and cozy--the best place we had for both dining and for conversation. A bonus came when we were eating during the call to prayer...the vicinity of the mosque added great local flavor to the experience.

"In a quiet area ar a walkable distance from downtown Tozeur, one of the most relaxed town in Tunisia, there is this interesting restaurant where you can get mainly local dishes and grilled meat and fish.
The free starter, common in Tunisia, included tuna in oil, black and white olives and harissa, ..."of course. Local bread was absolutely great, perfect with starters and with the mechouia salad I took afterward. Salad was also good with fresh ingredients.
Main course was a juicy dromedary steak that I really appreciated, served with rice, french fries and boiled vegetables.
To end the dinner I asked for dates and I was quite surprised that being so close to one of the biggest palm grove in Tunisia, they were not available but however was really not to bad to get local pastries and a thiberine.
Overall, I can say it was a very good dinner and the place was also nice, in a pretty garden.
