Along with the 'carte' and a basket of good bread, our friendly waitress offered us the 'menu of the day' - three 'set' courses for less than 15 euros. The menu began with a red and white tower of thick slices of tomato and mozzarella dressed with tangy olive oil, crushed pepper - and not quite enough salt. This was followed by a meaty chunk of fresh salmon fillet which came with steamed new potatoes and cauliflower, plus a side dish of creamy leek gratin (which the waitress rightly warned us was 'bouillant' or 'boiling' hot).
