"First time in Brussels and staying in the Place Louise area we went looking for a restaurant near Place De La Chapelle which turned out to be closed. On the way back to the hotel we happened upon this small restaurant whose outside chalkboard promised reasonably priced interesting food. This was a..." rainy, chilly evening in May so the outside tables were not used. It was perhaps 19:30 and we were told that all the tables were reserved but there was a table near the door that they did not intend to use but let us have it. What a find. My three companions had different crepe dishes and raved about them. I had a very nice beef and potato dish which was on special and cooked to perfection. We split 2 half liters of wine, had 2 desserts and an additional 2 glasses of wine for a total bill of 95 euros. Very fun atmosphere as we were the only tourists and everyone was in fine spirits and very helpful. If you approach this restaurant from Place Louise there is a unique pedestrian elevato...

"Chez Leon has been around forever, and was strongly recommended by my hotel as an ideal place for a traditional Brussels seafood meal-- and a very definite cut above the others on the lane, which is lined with apparently similar restaurants. The staff is welcoming, even (especially?) to tourists, a..."nd it is relatively easy to get reservations (which may not be necessary except at very busy times; the place is huge). It is also, surprisingly, sufficiently well divided into smaller sections to be quiet enough that you can actually hear the people you are with! The menu is long, but moules and fish are the specialties. The house white wine is totally adequate to accompany the meals. Prices are, for Brussels, very reasonable. If you want subtlety in cuisine, probably you can do a good deal better (at a correspondingly higher price) , but if all you want is genuine hearty Belgian seafood, this is a very good and reliable choice.
