"We had a large group for dinner, around 15 people, and this place is not equipped for such a large group, but they did a great job to make us all fit in an area, although we had to have the "kiddies" table at the end for a few, but it was fun so everyone enjoyed it.
The atmosphere inside is defin..."itely of the dark, smokey, jazz kind, with lots of things on the walls and eclectic furniture here and there as well. We made a lot of noise in our group but it didnt seem to worry the others too much.
The staff were very efficient at getting our drinks served, the local beer is really good by the way and the recommended wines were all enjoyed.
The food here is basically beef and cheese, or veal and cheese, or cheese and cheeese! But wait, its how its cooked and served that matters. We had a combination of people with fondu and the raklette which is the speciality of the house. I went for a potentially boring, but indeed in the end very very tasty steak (yum it was nice). "We went to this restaurant because the Bejing Town, which is just around the corner, is closed on Tuesdays. Funnily enough, the Emperor is closed on Mondays, when the Bejing Town is open. This plus the fact that they were displaying menus from the Bejing Town made us suspect that the two restaurants..." are under the same ownership! Having said all this, we preferred the Emperor - it's smaller, the road is quieter and the food was tasty and, hot and reasonably priced. If I'd been one my own a plate of Singapore noodles (15CHF) would have been enough for me but the spring rolls and the spicy sweet and sour prawns with rice were great too. One plus that there was no sight or smell of the food being cooked. Has anybody else mentioned that in both places the prices for eat in and take away are the same?

"Please note that the Beijing Town is closed on Tuesdays. However the Emperor, which is just around the corner, is open on Tuesdays and closed on Mondays (when the BT is open). The menu looks identical in both places, and we suspect they are owned by the same people. So you can eat Chinese any night ..."of the week in Montreux at a reasonable price.
