Trying to stand out

This and El Bourgnon, a little further down, are doing things a little differently and deserve credit. Whether it is only style not substance is debateable. This was a return visit six months after the first. We were disappointed to find that the selection of food seemed to be dramatically reduced. It was a pity to see such a fall in the range of offerings. No real enticement to return again. Sad!

I have been visiting the Brel for 10years when on holiday, I have seen it change from a simple pizzeria to this most amazing restaurant. The food is beautiful to look at and tastes amazing. The staff are very helpful with explain all the dishes if you are unsure about anything, and even when they are busy. They still have... More

I have been a fan of this restaurant for some 15 years but now that it has been renovated the prices have gone up. I am no longer impressed and will not return.

Dine al fresco at the Brel and enjoy the magnificent view of the Mediterranean. Perhaps not a patch on pizza restaurants in Italy, it is still a cut above the norm for Spain. They have vastly improved the décor and it is as up-market as you would expect in a small fishing town. The pizzas are thin and crispy and... More

Food was ok but massively over-priced - in particular the barbequed veg with 'edible' charcoal which at 12 euros for a few carrots, aubergine, corn and asparagus was the biggest rip-off we encountered in Alicante! Staff were also very uninterested and made little effort to ender their customers. There are much beeter places to eat in El Campello but you have... More

As others have said they have a new 'executive chef' - they have tried and sadly failed to make a Caesar salad 'deconstructed' basically it turns into a gritty mush. We came and ate off the beach so a really a well made salad would have been nice. It's a shame but we won't be rushing back.

Have been coming here regularly over the last 5 years and have always loved the buzz and slick service and food. However since my last visit it has had a makeover, with now a more formal restaurant feel than a brasserie. The owner and waiting staff are the same charming and welcoming as ever. The kitchen has moved and though... More

Brel sits in the middle of a very touristy sea side pedestrian boulevard, and used to serve top quality Italian dishes, such as a wood fire pizza, some amazing salads, fresh seafood starters, and excellent Pasta. It was the place to visit when you needed a break from Spanish food, and the food quality was very consistent throughout the years.... More

Great food & fantastic staff. I think this is the place for local non-Spanish residents. We were able to grab a table one night & book on another. The food wouldn't disappoint & it is excellent but there are a couple of other similar restaurants, offering the same standard, that are cheaper & less 'hemmed in'. all inall though, great.
