Lovely setting, getting very pricey

This has been one of my favourite eating stops in the North East for a long time, lovely setting with fantastic sun terrace ideal venue when the weather is at its best. The waiting staff are all excellent and the food is consistently good at a fair price. On my recent lunchtime visit it appears... read more

Eight members of the family met for lunch on Easter Sunday, weather was wonderful so we asked to sit outside staff were very obliging the problems came with the food which was very poor quality, barely warm and barely edible. None of us could eat the dreadful roast potatoes we were left hungry despite all having two courses! The best assets... More

Visited here recently for a friend's son's 18th. We were greeted warmly and offered the chance to wait in the bar or go upstairs. We were the first to arrive so stayed downstairs for a while. When we did go up the private room was lovely, nicely decorated, had its own toilets and the staff were attentive. The meal was... More

My husband thought he had booked us a family of 5 into the bistro for Mother's Day, seems he had made a mistake and had actually booked another restaurant instead. Despite this and the venue being fully booked they accommodated us anyway letting us eat in an private hire area. The menu was abundant with choice and the food arrived... More

The atmosphere, despite being the only couple in the bistro, was good and the décor inkeeping with the rest of the venue. My fiancé had a toasted muffin with poached eggs & melted cheese, which he enjoyed and there was plenty of choice of cereal, spreads and fruit juices. I ordered sausages, bacon & beans and the sausages were significantly... More

I went for the first time yesterday to Whinstone view and was very impressed.the place itself is in beautiful surroundings and very quiet.the scallion cream soup for starters was spot on with lovely bread and Gloucestershire butter.I had roast topside of beef for the main which was a little tough to cut but very tender.the service was polite and friendly... Not saying any of the negative reviews are wrong but as someone who has stayed and dined at WV over a dozen times I can only say that the food is very, very good and brilliant value. Never had a bad meal and the atmosphere and service are typical north east friendly. A lovely place with staff who will actually... More

we visited mid week for lunch, and were treated like second class citizens, the table we had pre-booked was in a most peculiar dark corner. The staff treated us to a wonderful display of negative customer service. We got the impression that our presence was just tolerable and they would much rather fawn over the other couple who arrived shortly... More

My son bought me a voucher for the Bistro as a Christmas present and as it was my partner and I first anniversary together we decided to use it on January 12th. We were quite sceptical ,as we had read some negative reviews. We were very pleasantly surprised. Both the evening menus were varied and reasonable. The staff were welcoming and... More

Had a Sunday roast here recently with family and friends. It was lovely, but it would have been much better if they hadn't put gravy all over it. Either serve the gravy in a jug and let people help themselves, or ask when taking the order. Bah.
