The oldest house in Church Street , Tulbagh – Readers. Offering simple, outstanding local and global cuisine, has been able to maintain a standard of excellence that has created a notable reputation with both locals and tourists. The cuisine varies on a daily basis depending on the availability of fresh produce. This provides Carol Collins – Silwood trained Cordon Bleu Chef -a certain challenge in ensuring the creation of dishes using imagination, flair and superb presentation. Certain dishes have become trademarks at Readers but the focus remains on variety, fusion of flavours and combination of unusual ingredients.

Owners are major cat lovers! Cats and cat nicknacks and pictures everywhere. Our group booked for 6 and they had no problem when we swelled to more than double that. Good variety on menu, homely food of good quality. Good service.

We popped in during the first week of our holiday, a great welcome with a warming sherry, smiling staff and made to feel at home. The shank and curry where both amazing, and the cabernet from edenhof was a great match. the cats theme is fab and the ice cream flavours stunning. This was the only place during out travels... Went to Readers on the first night of our stay in Tulbagh and intended having a cook-out at home for the second night. After outstanding meals enjoyed by all six of us, we booked again for the following evening and the experience was every bit as good. Loved the cosy atmosphere and the friendly and attentive staff but most of... More

We had a great meal in this cozy country venue. One of the best Bobootie dishes I have ever tasted. My wife had springbok shanks which she raved about. Great country dishes in a historic building. Definitely the best restaurant in the Tulbagh valley !

We drove a way to come and visit the cat curio shop which is part of Readers restaurant. What a dissapointment. When you first enter there is a room full of beautiful cat curios. You ohh an ahhh....just to find out that it is the owners private collection. You are then showed to another room which apparently housed the for... More

We throughly enjoyed the atmosphere, service and delicious food. The owner is also very knowledgeable about the area and was kind to share some good tips with us. We will be back! Still have some dishes from the menu that we are keen to try.

Carol Collins and her team make the best bobotie in the Boland. I had their pork chops with apple and blue cheese (comfort food galore) and the kids shared a fillet with a mushroom and red wine jus. We ended off or supper with a generous cheese platter laden with fresh fruit and dried cranberries.

Dear Reint and family - thank you for taking the time to write this review, and that we were able to keep the kids happy and therefore your meal also enjoyable. The pork and bobotie are 2 of my favourites, the lamb being one as well. Please come and visit us again soon. Thanks and kind regards Carol More

Dear Lyndon, thank you for taking the time to write this review - the ice cream flavours change on a daily basis and the flavour I made today was rooibos, lemon and honey and chocolate almond and secret ingredient .
