We stayed in the hotel (separately reviewed) for 2 days during our month-long tour of the Western Cape. We had breakfast and dinner in the restaurant once, both of which were taken in the courtyard behind the reception/bar area as this afforded more shelter (it was a bit breezy) than the main restaurant area at the front of the hotel... clearly money has been spend on the Tulbagh hotel of which this restaurant is part of. Quality furniture, a real classy feel to the whole establishment. We sadly were the only people dining at lunchtime on a Tuesday in the summer ?. The food was good, attentive service and we would go back, but, there were renovations going on with... More

Lovely relaxed lunch setting outside on the terrace in the shade of a tree. Good service and food. However, be warned that the food can take long and that the prices are pretty steep.

As lovely as the food and service was I was jaw droppingly shocked at the price. Breakfast for 3 at well over R300. I wouldn't expect to oh that at some of the finer establishments in Cape Town. It seems to me you've catered for the tourist market while scaring the locals away. And in such a saturated market I'm... More

A delightful restaurant with good food and very pleasant, attentive staff, situated in the beautiful Tulbagh valley. Would highly recommend it.

Was my wife's birthday and we decided on The Olive Terrace based on Internet research. Has an English Pubby look and feel and the food was really good. Had the butternut and lentil Bobotie and it was excellent. Sirloin was also extremely good

And smokers corner right next to the outdoor seating ... Spoilt the reasonable food. Much nicer places on Church Street.

Hi PS many thanks for your review. You may not be aware, but in the middle of the summer in the Cape, there are often flies. The local council do not spray to control the population as in some other countries. We have 3 outdoor eating areas, one of which is strictly no smoking, the courtyard. Additionally we have a... Had dinner and breakfast here. Food and service was good. My suggestion for breakfast to owners: fresh baked farm bread would be a nice addition to breakfast:)

Dear Mark thanks for taking the time to write your review. We bake our own bread for dinner in the evening, but didn't bake for breakfast as most people would like toast instead of fresh bread. However, I agree with you, and would prefer fresh bread myself, so we have started baking for breakfast. Regards Alasdair More

We ended up here after a terrible experience somewhere else, so we were already edgy. What a surprise! The staff was friendly, the menu was not very big, but had something for everyone. I did feel it was a little pricey, but we did leave with a smile at the end of the day. I will go back there on... More

Dear Houtkabouter thank you for your review. Very pleased your experience at the Olive Terrace was better than elsewhere. We constantly re-cost our menu, and change our menus to ensure we are using fresh seasonal produce. Using local produce can increase costs. For example, organic free range eggs from a local farm are more expensive than eggs from a supermarket.... More
