Lunch

Great food, great service. I would book ahead though if you want to eat in the restaurant. A really good mix of local ales.

A return visit, after a not so good experience. Top notch gastro food, as it was the last time. The challenge is staffing a pub and a restaurant, and sadly I don't think they have worked it out

Excellent Gastro pub in a lovely country side surrounding, good wine list, good roast, and friendly service. A great place for a family Sunday lunch, I need to try an evening with friends...

Arrived on a Tuesday lunch time. We were seated quickly and ordering was pretty quick. Although we were about the second table to order food we did wait over 30 minutes for our food to arrive. We ate the sausages which were chinese spiced and came with a tasty star anise gravy on mashed potato. These were very nice although... More

We went there recently for a Sunday evening meal - been before on a few special occasions and really enjoyed the food. The soup has always been a marvel and has never disappointed. However the tables are really close together so if you are looking for an intimate dinner without being able to overhear and be overheard, ask for a... More

We did a cycle ride around the area and after a few hours arrived at the pub 5 mins after they stopped serving. However they very kindly let us still order (or perhaps took pity on my exausted face!). We both had the duck leg which was very tasty. Beautiful location and well worth a visit.

We came here a few years ago and as it was my birthday decided to come again with friends (who had never been). It is situated in a village called Frithsden which is past Berkhampstead Golf Club. You drive along an unlit road and look out for the signpost for Frithsden and turn right. It is also an unlit road,... More

Wow, what a treat. I thought the food here was exceptionally good....I had just cycled 11 miles to get there, so was really looking forward to tucking in. I was not disappointed, Excellent fishcake from the specials menu, but for me the best dish was definitely the bread and butter brioche pudding in a white chocolate sauce. Absolutely delicious. The... More

The pub is well situated in lovely countryside and they welcome four legged companions in the bar area. The pub do lovely home-made sausages - on this occasion with fennel. I had the polenta chips and chickpea burger as a change to meat - really good food and great value. Great staff.

The Alford Arms nestles in the tiny village of Frithsden, in the Ashridge forest - one of Henry VIII's hunting forests. It's not really a pub any more, it's more a proper grown-up restaurant, but has managed to keep the casual look and feel of the country pub, while serving up quite delicious food. Lots of local and well-sourced ingredients,... More
