My only problem with this restaurant is finding it .. Once I do I don't want to leave ! The bubble and squeak dish is the best ever .. a real treat ..my wife loves the ambience of this hidden gem .. It is very popular locally and I would recommend booking early , their game dishes are particularly popular... More

IF YOU PARK ON THE ROAD, YOUR CAR WILL GET SCRAPED. It's not rocket science. If you do this thing called walking and park a bit further away (BUT NOT IN ANYONES DRIVEWAY) Then you can enjoy the lovely nature experience more and not slow down your car and make EVERYONE LATE! Ps. The actual pub is really nice, love... More

The title of this review pretty much sums it up. The first time I visited this pub was at the beginning of August, when I took my friend out for a 40th birthday lunch. The weather was warm enough to sit outside in the garden area at the front of the pub. Both then and when I made a reservation... More

My wife and I went for lunch here with friends and it was as bad as the last time!!! The service is just plain BAD and the staff do not seem to care! My wife's soup was served just warm and the bread was dry and stale. The fritter she had was awful and my food was not much better.... More

There always seem to be plenty of stylish, laid back but excellent pub restaurants in such places as Wiltshire and Dorset but Hertfordshire's offerings tend to the chain style, trying too hard side of design and feel. The Alford Arms would be at home anywhere and never fails to induce relaxation and satisfaction in all respects.

We have been to the Alford a few times - it is such a super location and great atmosphere - but each time the food was a little poorer - now we have decided to not go again.

I love the Alford Arms. It has exactly what you want in a good pub - Friendly staff, a welcoming atmosphere, and of course good food and drink. Dogs also allowed both inside and out, which is always nice. My most recent visit was last week. The last couple of times that I visited I hadn't been as impressed with... More

The food here is good and for that I will return. However the service needs to improve. The wine pouring was unprofessional: wine was ordered for 3 but poured for all 5 of us including those drinking only soft drinks; the bottle was unequally poured but now empty so the waitress immediately asked if we needed another bottle.....unlikely as only... I first visited this wonderful pub with some very good friends, it's their favourite local. It was a Sunday and the place was full, families, couples and lots of dogs! The place has a lovely atmosphere, everyone seems to chat to each other, lots of dog breed related questions too! My cheeky 4 old always visits the bar on her... More

If you expect customer service, don't bother. My parents went this week and had to wait an hour and a half for their first course to arrive after ordering. It was supposed to be a family celebration but to be honest wouldn't go again. Food was ok but the slow service and lack of apologies from staff really spoilt it.
