Lovely food

Always find the Alford to be a hit on occasions such as birthdays or get together. The food is always great and the staff really nice. Great selection of drinks ( especially gin) We always eat here midweek or sometimes lunch on a Saturday. We did once go on a Friday night for my other halts... read more

We had planned to visit after a long walk with friends but the weather conspired and the walk was cancelled but the experience couldn't have been better as we had a few drinks then into the restaurant for lunch. A great roast beef lunch and would certainly recommend.

This fantastic little pub is in the middle of nowhere but it's certainly worth a visit. It has a cute 'country pub' feel to it but the food is of top restaurant standard. The wine list is very varied with fantastic choices and caters for most budgets! The staff are super friendly, chatty and very attentive. It was fully booked... More

We went to the Alford for a friends birthday and the menu was average. Full of cheap cuts at prime cut prices. I had the steak which was well cooked but tasteless. Service was excellent from the junior staff although the senior guys need to have take a leaf out of the juniors book and care a bit more. Come... More

Enjoyed a great walk up from Berkhamsted on several occasions. Work the travel to the Alford arms for the bubble and squeak.

Visited with friends, 4 adults and 3 children. Had to book as it was very busy. Had a superb Sunday Roast -- the beef was fantastic. No children's menu, although they were willing to do fish fingers for the youngest child, although our 8 year old polished off the children's roast. A dedicated children's menu, with more options for younger... More

Whenever my son returns to Berkhamsted he likes to go to the Alford Arms and have the bubble and squeak, and sometimes he even pays for it! We went again this week, and whilst I don't mind pinching a bit of his b & s, I felt that I fancied something more substantial, without needing to opt for the steak.... More

We had not been to the Alford Arms for some years; recently we had heard several people talking about how good it still is, so we booked! A table for 4 on a Tuesday night in early Jan, it wasn't busy but then were is? It still had a good atmosphere, the menu provided lots of choice, the service was... More

Surprisingly busy for midweek lunch - fully booked in the restaurant but luckily a table became free in the bar. Staff ranged from very friendly and welcoming to an I've-seen-you-waving-at-me-but-I'll-ignore-you. Food: 2 people had the lamb rump which they both said was very nice. 2 others had the vegetarian burger and vegetarian salad, both were anything but nice. The burger... More

We have eaten at the Alford several times before the food and service is always excellent friendly and special. The traditional British Pub became even more traditional. when on Christmas Eve we suddenly realized that the restaurant was being taken over with Christmas eve revelers. We inquired why to be informed it was a tradition at the Alford to host... More
