Traditional pub with excellent cuisine

If you want a drive out to a traditional village pub but want that extra special menu, then go no further than the Alford Arms. Top of the special items was their Bubble and Squeak - truly amazing. The beers are looked after too. It's what Sundays were made for seven days a week.

This is the best pub restaurant of its kind for miles around. There is always a smiling welcome, the ambience, indoors or outdoors, is quietly lively; the menu is clever, with traditional English home cooking with a twist, plus divine olives. The menu is small enough to give you confidence that everything is fresh, with some locally sourced items. The... More

We went for Sunday lunch at this local pub in a hamlet and it was worth the drive from North London. Despite the weather, the experience was thoroughly enjoyable. The place was full and you needed a booking to eat but it was obvious why. My starter of home made falafel followed by a main of sea bream far excelled... More

If you care about farm animal welfare, but are not a vegetarian, and love your food eating out can be a bit of a trial. Asking if the chicken on the menu is high-welfare or free range oftens illicits a bemused/clueless response ('British' means diddly squat and 'Red Tractor' isn't much better), although the same establishment will merrily distinguish their... The pub was fully booked inside, although the garden has benches on a first-come first-served basis. This is fine if you're not staying for a long time, but can get a little uncomfortable. They have large umbrellas, which provide good shade from the sun, which was welcome relief as it was quite hot. The pub's garden is located right next... More

We visited this pub on a Saturday and thoroughly enjoyed the experiences. From the fishfingers which were fresh and homemade to the amazing squid. The clams were of a high standard and the lamb was also great. Puddings also a treat and for coffee lovers great espresso. Highly recommended.

Wonderful ambience, so cosy. A slick operation with a menu that is heart warming. And the wine list offers choice, but does not intimidate. And at a sensible price point. Excellent service, delicious food. Will visit again soon.

I think Alford Arms is little over rated food wise, service is good with very friendly staff, location is awesome only downside is the allow dogs in to restaurant which does not go well for me when eating a meal, not that i have anything against dogs as i am an animal owner myself.

I've been visiting the Alford Arms for well over 15 years and in that time, the exceptionally high standards of service, and quality of food have never dipped. Always a pleasure!
