i have been to Chez Dre several times, originally for their cakes which i loved. the dessert variety is not as appealing as it used to be so I have been having their savoury food, which really did not meet my expectations, given the price is a bit steep. i have to say, the service is disappointing, perhaps because it... Used to come here for the cakes now looks like they've shifted that part of the business to their new shop Bibelot. Had the whitebait and zucchini fritter which was very flavoursome and crispy on the outside. Loved it though 2 small patties plus poached eggs and some side salad leaves doesn't really justify the $19 price tag. Tried the... More

Got the Avo "luxe" today. Two thin slices of toasted sourdough, avocado with a thin layer of mild goats cheese, and a small sprinkle of nuts. It's what the menu stated, but very bland and missable. Find something better to spend your 16.50 on.

Returning to Melbourne after living there 15 years ago, I avoided favourite restaurants, markets, and places for fear of disappointment. Instead of Victoria Street Markets for weekly shopping, South Melbourne Markets, and instead of the classic comfort breakfast cafe, Babka's, I ventured into the very hip Chez Dre recommended by our friends. Neither place disappointed, but Chez Dre needed a... More

I've eaten here 5 times and bought pasties on many other occasions. It's a very pretty space with friendly attentive staff. I want to like it more than I do, but am always just a little disappointed with the food. The bread and pastries are brilliant - the food from the menu...not so much. The smashed pea, poached eggs, goats... More

The 20 minute wait on a Saturday morning was worth it - loved this place. My pork belly was great, atmosphere terrific, and expectations were exceeded for all four of us. Can't wait to go back to try some of the other things on the menu, including the pastries.

I've been looking forward to brunch at Chez Dre for such a long time. Well today my sister and I finally went and it was terrible. We both ordered poached eggs on sourdough toast. The eggs were cold and served on one thin slice of dry toast with rock hard crusts. The sides are $4.50 each and were absolutely disgusting,... More

Very popular place. The food and pastries looks amazing. Great service, good coffee. Food is interesting and tasty, is prepared very quickly for such a busy place, however my mate's chorizo was overcooked and tough. The rest of the meal was great. 4.5 stars, will recommend!

We were there on a Sunday late morning, absolutely crowded with a queue spilling out, which told us we must be on a good thing! Typical rustic Melbourne cafe, with open kitchen, a bakery, odd tables and chairs, a mixed bunch of people eating there. The food was good, very prompt, teas were good and big servings! Very friendly staff.... More
