A 'Scottish' Named Pub with Good Spanish Food

The Robbie Burns hotel (pub for non-Australians) is an unlikely venue to find good Spanish food one might think. On the other hand it isn't too far from the Spanish and latin American quarter (barrio) of Johnston St which is nearby so there is plenty of company. The Robbie Burns has a number of... read more

My first visit to Bobby Burns in Smith Street and I was delighted with the food. Spanish authentic served by Spanish staff!! Couldn't resist the Squid Ink Paella but will have to go back for the Fish Stew - warm, friendly staff and very pleasant atmosphere.

Been around for years got a face and menu lift about 6 years ago and now serves up some cracking Brazilian cuisine. Service is great and they also do a great $15 lunch special that really hits the spot.

Had dinner with a couple of Spanish friends. Apparently the place is run by try Spanish and a popular joint for Spanish locals. The squid ink paella was simply delicious with the true crust at the bottom. The grilled vegetables were lovely too. The only downside for me was the dessert being too sweet but that's probably just me, maybe... More

Had a lovely lunch on a very busy Saturday afternoon. The service was great and the waitress who looked after us was brilliant always smiling and very friendly. The atmosphere is very relaxed and cosy. Definitely will visit again when next in Melbourne.

My kids love David Villa. We went to Robert Burns when David Villa was still playing for Melbourne City last year. My then 4 year old son thought Roberto, one of the waiters, was David Villa. My son has since been talking about him and the restaurant often. We went there again a couple of nights ago. Roberto was still... More

From the minute you arrive you get a warm and cozy vibe that is so relaxing. The staff were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble. The food was simply fantastic, whether you like a traditional meal, share with a partner or a group of friends they have it covered. The Paella is sooo good!

Great Spanish food...wonderful paellas (the squid ink was fantastic) and the share plates such as octopus was melt in the mouth. Service was a little average even though the staff were very friendly, they did take a while to bring our cocktails and bought us a bottle of red wine when we had ordered white! But, would definitely go back... More

Tasty dinner with good service. Shared entrees, mains of steaks & fish cooked yo liking. Particularly liked the wine - Nebla Verdejo and reasonably priced.
