Clean, fresh flavours

A warm Melbourne night we wanted something light so we opted for our favourite cuisine, Japanese. We new about this place as we frequent Smith street a lot but never had been until now. We were lucky to get a table as it was very busy and a waiting list. We were lucky enough to be sitting out the... read more

Friend and I caught up with each other in Collingwood the other night and decided that it was the right time of day to turn in some where for an informal little dinner. Walking along Smith Street, we perused a few menus outside the wide variety og restaurant Bistros available. We were offered a table at Wabi Sabi Salon despite... More

Nice small venue. Interesting menu some fusion of cuisines. Salmon was very we'll cooked. All our dishes were well Done and tasty. Service was average and food didn't come out all together, we all got our meals at different times. Overall good meal and would go again.

But you have to order a lot of food to fill up, and it isn't cheap. It was quainter and quirkier before the renovations.

Visited for lunch with friends on a weekday. The place is quite nice and cozy on the inside. The menu is good, with a good mix of dishes. The sashimi platter is very well prepared and presented and the Japanese curry chicken dishes have that authentic taste. Portions are large enough for most people. The drinks menu is quite good... This little place has fabulous food. It's presented in a very easily accessed format (not always the way in Japanese restaurants). Highlights within the tapis style starters were the gyoza (pork and vegetarian), the soft shelled crab and the calamari. The tonkatsu was fabulous. Service is friendly and efficient.

Wabi Sabi serves seasonal Japanese food that is clearly authentic. The menu is a little different from the normal Australian Japanese restaurant but the food is very good and reasonably priced. On the night we went the disservice was a little slow as they were short staffed but they were very apologetic. The seasonal dishes we ordered were both very... More

I've been dining at Wabi Sabi for about four years now, in fact it was my introduction to Smith St and no doubt part of the reason I bought an apartment there! They had change of direction with their menu a few years ago, which pushed the prices up and switched from more traditional Japanese food to a more modern... More

I had lunch there twice and enjoyed the food served by the friendly wait staff. The bento boxes are good and enough to satisfy one's appetite.
