Welcoming pub with very good food and ambience

Made to feel very welcome here after a walk in the Peaks, dog included. Very good range of food -bar snacks, light meals and main meals. Also very good choice of ales. The landlord and other staff were friendly and the service was efficient.

Popped in her on spec on a saturday night. It was crowded with all the tables taken and one party waiting for one. The Land lady welcomed us and said as long as we didnt mind waiting we would get a meal. Indeed we did, good well cooked food really hit the spot. as an aside the range of beers... More

We stopped in for lunch and a pint on a rainy afternoon and it really hit the spot. A roaring fire, good food and a lovely, cosy atmosphere. Also dog friendly!

My parents moved to Hope 18 years ago. In the early years this place became our second home. David eventually left and after several visits over a period of years rather than months we gave up. Every now and again we give it another try and are never captured. It's Easter Saturday. We went out for a long walk and... More

I am sorry that you had a ‘disastrous’ day due to your visit to us. I have been the owner of the Cheshire Cheese for the last 5 years and I am thankful that it has become more popular than ever before. Perhaps the emphasis has changed over the years from a drink led to a food led pub but... More

We always try to visit this small pub in Hope, close to the B@B. Most welcoming with good food. We liked the quiz night and the food. Nothing to dislike.

I've visited this pub many times after walking along the ridge of hills from Castleton to Hope. I'm usually part of a group of lads and this is the first pub we come to after our decent from Lose Hill into Hope. I've always liked the real fires and the cosy nature of the pub but until now haven't eaten... More

We ate here twice on a weekend break in the Peak District. On both occasions the pub felt warm and snug on a cold evening and the nooks and crannies of the bars were rather appealing, as were the open fires. The food was substantial and tasty - good pub fare - and there were some decent ales. On top... More

We went on a Saturday evening in February. The staff were friendly and polite and the service was very good. The food, which arrived quickly, was good and freshly cooked. My husband had steak and chips, I had the game pie and my son had fish and chips from the children's menu. We were all pleased with what we had... More
