Friendly, relaxed and yummy food

Staying just down the road, my family and I visited the pub for an evening meal on our first night. They were fab and knowledgable with gluten free ways. I had the lamb with tray baked vegetables and mint oil which was gorgeous. Really nice warm friendly atmosphere. Would definitely recommend.

Stopped off here for some lunch with a friend on a day out in the Peak District. Have to say the food was really good, generous portion. It was excellent value too- some of the pubs in the area have kind of out-priced the general populous for lunch in their quest to better one another with fancy ingredients. Not this... More

Just off the beaten path in hope is this great really old British pub. We had a large family meal there and it was just superb, the pub itself was really old with a lot of character and burning fires to keep the rooms warm. Nice low ceilings in the restaurant bit gave it a nice cosy feel, kinda like... More

We regularly visit the Cheshire Cheese (usually after walking along the Great Ridge from Mamtor but I have only just got around to leaving a review. Last night we visited again with 10 friends and, as always, enjoyed a brilliant meal with great beer, fantastic atmosphere and superb service. This really is everything a great pub should be. Thanks.

With a walking group - pre-ordered Soup and 1/2 Baguette. Instead received bread sandwich which was rather dry! Chaotic service for food but bar staff friendly. Beers okay!

Came in with a group of 10-12 students on Saturday for some drinks. Very friendly staff and attentive in serving people. Have had food before here which was amazing. Glad to see the menu is sticking to its roots with good hearty food. Highly recommended

We were heading for a walk on Kinder Scout and stopped here for a light lunch before commencing our climb. We were served promptly and the staff are pleasant. The pub dates back to the 1500's so there's bags of atmosphere. All in all a pleasant place and not as busy as some in Hope and Castleton.

We went here for tea on a Tuesday night as we were staying in Hope on a short break at a local caracan site, and were well impressed. The service we received from the all the staff was polite and warm. The food was well good too! The only slight problem was the size of the lasagne - could do... More
