Food Great, Sunday Service Was Poor

The food was great but on the Bank Holiday Sunday we were there the service was pretty slow. We waited an hour for our food and no one asked if we wanted another drink whilst waiting. The staff were great, just under trained and a bit young to realise what service is! However, it's worth a visit

We are really glad that you enjoyed your food on Sunday but extremely sorry that you felt that the service was not up to standard. We were completely inundated with customers and we turned away as many people as we served at around the time that you came in. We did our very best but we have a small kitchen... More

The pub is a very cosy one, with a nice atmosphere. We are in a big group and they quickly adjusted tables and catered for us. The food was of very good quality and a good variety. The prices were reasonable for what was offered and the portions were good-sized. We also took part in the weekly quiz, which involved... More

We have been to the cheese many times and it's always good and the landlord welcoming. The food is excellent at 9 to £15 for a main, with home prepared and cooked food with generous portions. They often seem to have theme nights with a good quiz on a Wednesday. The beer is very good. Excellent all round pub.

The food was reasonable price and very good. Good selection of beer. Able to book ahead only pub in the area I could find that did. Desserts were superb- especially the bakewell tart. It was clean , nice decor and lovely atmosphere.

A lovely charming pub in a little village. However, be mindful that there is another pub in Castleton a few miles down the road with a very similar name causing us much confusion- fortunately we'd booked the right pub but whilst we were eating some others turned up expecting to meet friends who were 2 miles down the road so... Hubby and I walked to this beautiful pub and just had a drink but the welcome was warm and the beer was good. Worth a visit.

Made to feel very welcome here after a walk in the Peaks, dog included. Very good range of food -bar snacks, light meals and main meals. Also very good choice of ales. The landlord and other staff were friendly and the service was efficient.

The Land lady welcomed us and said as long as we didnt mind waiting we would get a meal. Indeed we did, good well cooked food really hit the spot. as an aside the range of beers... More
