We had looked at some of the local pubs and their reviews before our walk, however they appeared to have mixed reviews. The Cheshire Cheese stood out as a good bet - backed up by the staff in the national trust cafe at the start of our walk. It is exactly what you want from a country pub, roaring log... More

This pub is in one of the prettiest villages in the area. Its worth a visit alone just for a drink, but if you have time have a dinner there too. We had a Sunday Lunch there. We picked a day where they had an annual bike ride club having their own Xmas dinner and the atmosphere was really great.... More

We booked a large walking party into have Sunday lunch here - the staff were excellent and we had a lovely warm room to ourselves with a blazing fire going. The food was delicious - very impressed with the veggie Sunday roast option - rare to be able to join in with the Sunday roast if you are veggie. Thanks!

Great service and loved the spring rolls. Really convivial atmosphere, two fires going in Inn, warm and friendly.

We went to the Cheshire Cheese twice during our week in Hope; once for drinks in the evening, which happened to be pub quiz night and was a lot of fun to take part in. Good selection of real ale and wine on offer. We also ate one evening - very good pub grub, with good range of additional specials... More

We were lucky to get into this quaint little pub, because in the Winter months they sometimes close on a Sunday night! The very friendly barman informed us, they had been unexpectedly inundated at lunch so a couple of things were no longer on the menu, however, what we did have was hot and very tasty, so with a lovely... Super food, warm and cosy, just what we wanted. I had sea bass which was delicious and my boyfriend had venison. The wine and beer were excellent

Just come home from a brilliant weekend away, with my wife. This old pub oozes character: stone floors, real fires, cosy corners. The food was all fabulous- I would particularly recommend the guinea fowl , if it is available- and there is a brilliant selection of local cask ale - all in tip-top condition. Our room was clean and comfortable... More

A characterful tucked away country pub, brimming with atmosphere. We were made very welcome and the service was really good. All of the staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The food was excellent, well cooked and presented to restaurant standard. Prices are reasonable value for money. It has a very relaxed and down to earth atmosphere, appears to... More
