Came across this place when touring the villages in the Chilterns, and decided to stop for a bite. The place was not very busy. We were treated pleasantly enough and our food did not take too long to arrive. It was tasty and well-presented, but I have had better. Would probably not return to this one.

Lovely position just off the Ridgeway for walkers. We stopped for lunch which was a little disappointing but maybe it was because it was Monday lunchtime. I had a ham baguette. The ham was lovely but the baguette was yesterdays. Others in the party also had baguettes with the same comment. My husband had a cheddar ploughman's which was OK... More

Found this pub from a sign post on the way back from a lovely walk by the reservoir at Tring it was 4pm and they had stopped serving hot food but offered us baguettes.and plough mans with chips, I have to say it was fantastic, I had smoked salmon with cream cheese and salad which was great , there was... I really do not like to add a poor review of any establishment, especially as pubs are currently struggling to keep afloat, but I really would struggle to say anything nice about this one. The owner is very unfriendly, and rude, and I have even seen him take a drink from a pint which someone had returned as they felt... More

A country pub with oodles of character, part-extended (but sympathetically) ..nicely quirky. Plenty of seating (inside & out) & large car park to the rear. Good selection of beers, properly kept. Tad miffed to be told rather indelicately by the barman on our visit (following a 3 hour walk!) that there would be no food as 'the kitchen staff were... More

The sign on the door as you walk in says it all "please take off muddy boots, muddy paws welcome". My family uses The Lions as a dog walking start/finish point. I use it as a place to try new guest ales as they change regularly. Food comes in large quantities for the hungry walker, no nouvelle cuisine here. It's... More

I use this pub from time to time. A great village pub that attracts walkers from the Ridgeway track and others passing by. Worth a stop. Dogs welcome as well if you walk your dog.

This is an atmospheric village pub with low wooden beams, good home-cooked food, and real ales. The coffee is also notable. I didn't want a full meal, but enjoyed a bowl of piping hot minestrone soup, very tasty and packed with an unusual variety of vegetables. It came with fresh crusty bread and butter, and I washed it all down... More

A group of us enjoyed a variety of dishes here, everyone enjoyed the food, the beer and the log burner, which kept us nice and warm after our 5 mile walk.

An old style country pub with first rate pub grub. The staff made us very welcome, and were particularly helpful when it came to looking after the dog. We had walked to the pub, as others obviously had, and the warm welcome was extended to the dog who was brought a bowl of water and a biscuit. We had a... More
