Description: Bridging the gap between country inn & local restaurant, The White Oaks has established itself as a local favourite. The White Oak is an independent and contemporary 'Gastro Pub' where the kitchen & service sets out to please, & covers all bases from pata negra ham & goats chees and walnut salads to chicken liver parfait & their signature roast chicken ravioli. For mains lots of fresh fish features including Whole Lemon sole, whole Dover Sole and Hake as well as the Suckling Pig Belly to share & daily made pies along with Aubrey Allen British Highland free-range steaks. If that's not enough the desserts tend to be classic but executed very well including creme Brulee, pannacotta and excellent brioche donuts. Set menus also offer decent value (£14/16 for two/three courses at lunch and £19/21 at dinner) running alongside the A la Carte menu. The traditional Roasts is served on Sundays alongside the A La Carte. There's also plenty of good drinking on the Corney & Barrow wine list (look for Delamotte Grand Cru Champagne, Archaval-Ferrer Malbec, & 'Psi' Tempanillo from Michael Sisseck) and a barter bin where you haggle for top end clarets (one has 98 parker points!). The dining room's taupe shades, thick pine beams, cream chandeliers and widely spaced, bare tables match the food's smart, unfussy tone, while warm, engaging staff and a compact, broadly priced wine list also fit the bill.

Excellent food with very good service, and for a very reasonable price, well worth visiting for a meal and a stroll around Cookham.

I went to the White Oak with work friends this week. We had a drink in the bar area to start and the waiters came to the table to take our orders, the service was very good. We then sat down for dinner. The atmosphere is very cosy and the interior is lovely. I had the mussels to start which... More

We only went in here for a drink one evening but really liked the place. The staff were great and we loved the games such as draughts that had been left on the bar tables. We looked at the menu and thought it sounded great. We would love to come back and try it out.

Today was my First time at the white oak and I was very pleased. Cookham is great for a pre lunch riverside walk to build your appetite. The white oak is very well decorated and is warm and welcoming. When you ask for a GandT they ask which gin you prefer and serve it with fever tree tonic. They have some... More

So close to a busy crossroads, chance buyers risk missing this delightful restaurant but it certainly rewards the effort. It has a big car park and offers a warm welcome to its clients. The service is helpful, cheerful and friendly, the décor and furnishings a most tastefully planned and the menu is intelligently constructed: a very good and inexpensive two-course... More

A big group of us went for my Gran's 80th birthday and the food was incredible. Because it was near Christmas we had to have the set Christmas menu and order in advance which I was a bit disappointed by but when the food arrived I was very pleased. I thought it was expensive at £33 a head for three... More
