Description: Bridging the gap between country inn & local restaurant, The White Oaks...
Bridging the gap between country inn & local restaurant, The White Oaks has established itself as a local favourite. The White Oak is an independent and contemporary 'Gastro Pub' where the kitchen & service sets out to please, & covers all bases from pata negra ham & goats chees and walnut salads to chicken liver parfait & their signature roast chicken ravioli. For mains lots of fresh fish features including Whole Lemon sole, whole Dover Sole and Hake as well as the Suckling Pig Belly to share & daily made pies along with Aubrey Allen British Highland free-range steaks. If that's not enough the desserts tend to be classic but executed very well including creme Brulee, pannacotta and excellent brioche donuts. Set menus also offer decent value (£14/16 for two/three courses at lunch and £19/21 at dinner) running alongside the A la Carte menu. The traditional Roasts is served on Sundays alongside the A La Carte. There's also plenty of good drinking on the Corney & Barrow wine list (look for Delamotte Grand Cru Champagne, Archaval-Ferrer Malbec, & 'Psi' Tempanillo from Michael Sisseck) and a barter bin where you haggle for top end clarets (one has 98 parker points!). The dining room's taupe shades, thick pine beams, cream chandeliers and widely spaced, bare tables match the food's smart, unfussy tone, while warm, engaging staff and a compact, broadly priced wine list also fit the bill.

We were a party of 4 for lunch on Sunday and it was very good indeed. The location is lovely since it is nice and central in Cookham which is a very pretty little village. The service at the restaurant was excellent from the moment we arrived until the very end of the meal with just the right amount of... More

We choose the 3 course option that they had. To be honest it wasnt great. It would perhaps have been better to have 2 options for each course rather than just the 1 option. Service was good, the restaurant was cosy (but quite loud) and the food was average.

Met up with a friend for a catchup! We both independently picked this out from 'word-of-mouth'. The staff were friendly and very organised. Food excellent, the Hake is amazing. No hesitation in wholeheartedly recommending it.

It's never just a meal out at the White Oak - it's an experience! The broccoli actually tastes like broccoli and the salmon was teamed with a dash of an amazing sauce x Officially my favourite local restaurant! My sincere thanks to the brilliant chef Jake and Kasha for a great meal.

I recently went for a meal at the White Oak with 3 friends. We asked when booking to have a quieter table and where we were sat was just what we asked for. I have allergy issues and when I asked for help the waitress was very helpful in going through my choices for food. Service was fast and friendly... More

Meal for 2 cost £80 with one not drinking; poor value for the overall evening. Good points: lovely food, good drinks selection and nice atmosphere. Poor points: overall service. An unfortunate combination of not enough staff and staff not attentive enough. After being seated we had to wait 25 minutes at our table before anyone came to take our food... More

Me and my partner visited last weekend and I've only just got round to writing this. I was recommended this restaurant by a friend and we visited for our anniversary and can honestly say we were both blown away by the food! The slow cooked pork belly was amazing and me and my partner both enjoyed the milk chocolate ganache!... More

Thank you for a fabulous evening at the White Oak, chefs, waiting staff and management, what a great restaurant. I will most definitely recommend this to my friends and family and visit again.
