Description: Bridging the gap between country inn & local restaurant, The White Oaks has established itself as a local favourite. The White Oak is an independent and contemporary 'Gastro Pub' where the kitchen & service sets out to please, & covers all bases from pata negra ham & goats chees and walnut salads to chicken liver parfait & their signature roast chicken ravioli. For mains lots of fresh fish features including Whole Lemon sole, whole Dover Sole and Hake as well as the Suckling Pig Belly to share & daily made pies along with Aubrey Allen British Highland free-range steaks. If that's not enough the desserts tend to be classic but executed very well including creme Brulee, pannacotta and excellent brioche donuts. Set menus also offer decent value (£14/16 for two/three courses at lunch and £19/21 at dinner) running alongside the A la Carte menu. The traditional Roasts is served on Sundays alongside the A La Carte. There's also plenty of good drinking on the Corney & Barrow wine list (look for Delamotte Grand Cru Champagne, Archaval-Ferrer Malbec, & 'Psi' Tempanillo from Michael Sisseck) and a barter bin where you haggle for top end clarets (one has 98 parker points!). The dining room's taupe shades, thick pine beams, cream chandeliers and widely spaced, bare tables match the food's smart, unfussy tone, while warm, engaging staff and a compact, broadly priced wine list also fit the bill.

We dropped in on Saturday, we didn't have a reservation but we were able to sit in the bar area. The White Oak is local to us and we often pop in for a meal. They are always welcoming, including when we take our grandchildren aged 1 and 3. The food is always delicious and the staff friendly and efficient.

We booked for a group of 7 and had one of the private dining rooms. The service was very good and everyone enjoyed their food. Overall, lovely and we will be sure to visit again.

I have eaten a couple of times here. I find the establishment pretentious and not living up to expectations. The staff is friendly, the restaurant itself nice, but the food is nothing special and therefore quite expensive.

Having been regulars at The White Oak for a number of years, where we have experienced consistently excellent food and service, when it came to our Wedding there was only one place at the top of our wish list to hold our reception. Throughout the planning process, Marianne the General Manager (Mo) and Chef Patron Clive Dixon, ensured that they... More

Tasty lunch in semi-private room off the main bar. We were 10 and ate a combination off the Auberge set and a la carte menus. Delicious pea soup and fillet of plaice. Attentive service. Worked out at £40 per head, with half of us having 3 courses, pre lunch drinks, couple of bottles of wine, coffees and service. Thoroughly recommend,... More

This is the second time I've booked for a larger table at lunchtime - they have two private dining rooms / areas that you can use for no extra charge (great if you think you're going to be a bit noisy!). The service is excellent - friendly and attentive (especially good for private dining room where sometimes you can feel... More

We have eaten here many times over the past few years and think it is superb - great quality dining, nice surroundings, definitely good value for money and very pleasant knowledgeable staff. A big well done to all the White Oak team.

This is my first ever review on Trip Advisor, but I just had to make my wonderful experience publically known :) Mo and her most wonderful team at The White Oak made my special 50th birthday celebrations run perfectly. The food and service were all excellent and I cannot express my gratitude enough! I am an extremely fussy person and... More
