Description: Bridging the gap between country inn & local restaurant, The White Oaks...
Bridging the gap between country inn & local restaurant, The White Oaks has established itself as a local favourite. The White Oak is an independent and contemporary 'Gastro Pub' where the kitchen & service sets out to please, & covers all bases from pata negra ham & goats chees and walnut salads to chicken liver parfait & their signature roast chicken ravioli. For mains lots of fresh fish features including Whole Lemon sole, whole Dover Sole and Hake as well as the Suckling Pig Belly to share & daily made pies along with Aubrey Allen British Highland free-range steaks. If that's not enough the desserts tend to be classic but executed very well including creme Brulee, pannacotta and excellent brioche donuts. Set menus also offer decent value (£14/16 for two/three courses at lunch and £19/21 at dinner) running alongside the A la Carte menu. The traditional Roasts is served on Sundays alongside the A La Carte. There's also plenty of good drinking on the Corney & Barrow wine list (look for Delamotte Grand Cru Champagne, Archaval-Ferrer Malbec, & 'Psi' Tempanillo from Michael Sisseck) and a barter bin where you haggle for top end clarets (one has 98 parker points!). The dining room's taupe shades, thick pine beams, cream chandeliers and widely spaced, bare tables match the food's smart, unfussy tone, while warm, engaging staff and a compact, broadly priced wine list also fit the bill.

Excellent Food!

Nice place. Nice dining room and garden. The food was excellent. Beef Ribs were an excellent special. Star of the show were the brioche doughnuts OMG... The only reason I havn't given the White Oak 5 stars was the lack of enthusiasm from all the young staff - not poor service but not personal... read more

the lunch menu did not include a veggie option.....something to do with electrics being down for an hour before opening time....weird....so I asked if the veggie pasta on the main menu could be ordered just a small portion, after saying no it was decided a while later that it could be...saw other dinners have this option also. Food all excellent, husbands pork... More

We had a nice family much today, but sadly the section choice for children was very limited. One child had a small portion of french fries, the only thing on the menu they liked. I understand that you cannot have an infinite selection, but a few more choices would be great.

I have been a number of times now, either with the family or just for a drink with my partner. The staff are very friendly and helpful, including the man who helped show my daughter how to play a board game last weekend! The food has always been very good...with a good range of starters and main courses. Whilst it... More

Took my dad for a belated Father's Day meal. The experience was satisfactory but nothing more. We were given a table for four near the rear garden. Unfortunately the floor moved every time the waiters walked past to service the garden and it felt like we were on a roller coaster. The wall opposite appeared dirty and in need of... More

We went to the White Oak for my birthday lunch on Sunday and had a lovely time - the food was delicious, service excellent and the place is very pretty. It was very busy with a great atmosphere and they were lovely with our two year old son. Will considered The White Oak for our wedding reception next year.

The White Oak in Cookham is a little gem. Made a booking a few days before, no problems getting a table for a Saturday evening dinner for two. Arrived a little early, plenty of parking even though the restaurant was busy, and settled into the comfortable bar for pre-dinner drinks. We were put under no pressure to move to our... More

First class menu coupled with great presentation and delicious taste. Much attention to guest comfort with warm welcome and ready attention. A pleasant garden for a pre-prandial drink or post-prandial coffee and chocolate. Fortunately my host had booked and so my advice is to make sure you have booked before going. Definitely on my list next time I am in... More
