Description: Bridging the gap between country inn & local restaurant, The White Oaks has established itself as a local favourite. The White Oak is an independent and contemporary 'Gastro Pub' where the kitchen & service sets out to please, & covers all bases from pata negra ham & goats chees and walnut salads to chicken liver parfait & their signature roast chicken ravioli. For mains lots of fresh fish features including Whole Lemon sole, whole Dover Sole and Hake as well as the Suckling Pig Belly to share & daily made pies along with Aubrey Allen British Highland free-range steaks. If that's not enough the desserts tend to be classic but executed very well including creme Brulee, pannacotta and excellent brioche donuts. Set menus also offer decent value (£14/16 for two/three courses at lunch and £19/21 at dinner) running alongside the A la Carte menu. The traditional Roasts is served on Sundays alongside the A La Carte. There's also plenty of good drinking on the Corney & Barrow wine list (look for Delamotte Grand Cru Champagne, Archaval-Ferrer Malbec, & 'Psi' Tempanillo from Michael Sisseck) and a barter bin where you haggle for top end clarets (one has 98 parker points!). The dining room's taupe shades, thick pine beams, cream chandeliers and widely spaced, bare tables match the food's smart, unfussy tone, while warm, engaging staff and a compact, broadly priced wine list also fit the bill.

We have eaten here many times over the past few years and think it is superb - great quality dining, nice surroundings, definitely good value for money and very pleasant knowledgeable staff. A big well done to all the White Oak team.

This is my first ever review on Trip Advisor, but I just had to make my wonderful experience publically known :) Mo and her most wonderful team at The White Oak made my special 50th birthday celebrations run perfectly. The food and service were all excellent and I cannot express my gratitude enough! I am an extremely fussy person and... More

The Prof was the happiest I had ever seen, raved about the delicious menu and superb cooking. Sunday lunch outside in the garden, sun shining, dog asleep under the table and great friendly smiling staff - it was perfect. I had the most delicious omelette, looked amazing, round, light and fluffy and tasted amazing. The Prof and daughter had roast... More

We came to the White Oak after so many people recommended it. The restaurant itself is stunning, beautifully decorated and the tables are arranged so they aren't just in rows- our table was hidden away and it was lovely to have some privacy at a busy restaurant. We were greeted with a genuine smile and our waitress was very attentive.... More

A guest of friends, I found the atmosphere and decor of the dining room very pleasing, and the staff were friendly and attentive, but then, my friends are regulars. One of my friends and I ordered the same fish dish, and the waitress asked us if we wanted it as prepared, or 'cooked through'. As neither of us like raw... More

Visited here on a Monday evening, to find the place really busy. Apparently Monday night is steak night. Despite being busy, service was quick, too quick really, so we did not have a chance to relax over dinner. Food was OK, but nothing special. Overall tge experience was disappointing. We won't be in a hurry to return.
