Description: Bridging the gap between country inn & local restaurant, The White Oaks...
Bridging the gap between country inn & local restaurant, The White Oaks has established itself as a local favourite. The White Oak is an independent and contemporary 'Gastro Pub' where the kitchen & service sets out to please, & covers all bases from pata negra ham & goats chees and walnut salads to chicken liver parfait & their signature roast chicken ravioli. For mains lots of fresh fish features including Whole Lemon sole, whole Dover Sole and Hake as well as the Suckling Pig Belly to share & daily made pies along with Aubrey Allen British Highland free-range steaks. If that's not enough the desserts tend to be classic but executed very well including creme Brulee, pannacotta and excellent brioche donuts. Set menus also offer decent value (£14/16 for two/three courses at lunch and £19/21 at dinner) running alongside the A la Carte menu. The traditional Roasts is served on Sundays alongside the A La Carte. There's also plenty of good drinking on the Corney & Barrow wine list (look for Delamotte Grand Cru Champagne, Archaval-Ferrer Malbec, & 'Psi' Tempanillo from Michael Sisseck) and a barter bin where you haggle for top end clarets (one has 98 parker points!). The dining room's taupe shades, thick pine beams, cream chandeliers and widely spaced, bare tables match the food's smart, unfussy tone, while warm, engaging staff and a compact, broadly priced wine list also fit the bill.

Best place to go in Cookham

Once again a very nice meal at a good price. The menu has a good mix of a la carte and specials. Service is good as well. Looking forward to the next meal in what is probably the best place to go in Cookham.

Went to the white oak with some friends and had a really enjoyable lunch, the dining rooms really clean and light with lots of friendly staff! The food was fantastic with a very well kept pint of ale.

Poor service, food was cold, wrong orders taken, slow with children's meals. Won't be back. We have visited this restaurant on two occasions recently. We will not be back .

Went for dinner with a friend to White Oak on their special Jazz event. The music and service contributed to an amazing evening. The highlight however was the inspired meal that took us on a culinary journey to New Orleans with authentic tastes style and presentation. The head chef is a genius! We will be back to try more of... More

Enjoyed a meal here a couple of nights ago. Inside was more relaxed and informal than I was expecting somehow but nice and as other reviewers have said the decor is pleasant. The comfy chairs for having a drink in before going to the table were lovely. The food was tasty and well presented. We had three courses each from... More

This was our first trip to this restaurant and it won't be our last. Friendly and efficient staff, wonderful food, great wine, relaxing atmosphere, tasteful decor. It isn't one of the cheapest restaurants in the area, but given the quality of the food and the overall dining experience it is very reasonably priced - there was nothing not to like... More

My boyfriend and I have been to the White Oak on a number of occasions now, twice in one week after our first visit as I was so impressed. Amazing food, perfect service, all for reasonable prices. The food quality was higher than some Michelin starred restaurants I've visited - can't understand why it wouldn't be awarded one. Look forward... More

Fabulous value and quality of set lunches (and a al carte looked very good) here, served by attentive staff in pleasant, but rather formal, surroundings. Slightly let down by horrible background music and below par dessert. But overall very enjoyable and we will go again. Give it a try!
