Description: Bridging the gap between country inn & local restaurant, The White Oaks has established itself as a local favourite. The White Oak is an independent and contemporary 'Gastro Pub' where the kitchen & service sets out to please, & covers all bases from pata negra ham & goats chees and walnut salads to chicken liver parfait & their signature roast chicken ravioli. For mains lots of fresh fish features including Whole Lemon sole, whole Dover Sole and Hake as well as the Suckling Pig Belly to share & daily made pies along with Aubrey Allen British Highland free-range steaks. If that's not enough the desserts tend to be classic but executed very well including creme Brulee, pannacotta and excellent brioche donuts. Set menus also offer decent value (£14/16 for two/three courses at lunch and £19/21 at dinner) running alongside the A la Carte menu. The traditional Roasts is served on Sundays alongside the A La Carte. There's also plenty of good drinking on the Corney & Barrow wine list (look for Delamotte Grand Cru Champagne, Archaval-Ferrer Malbec, & 'Psi' Tempanillo from Michael Sisseck) and a barter bin where you haggle for top end clarets (one has 98 parker points!). The dining room's taupe shades, thick pine beams, cream chandeliers and widely spaced, bare tables match the food's smart, unfussy tone, while warm, engaging staff and a compact, broadly priced wine list also fit the bill.

We met some friends at the White Oak for lunch before a visit to Cliveden. The exterior looked a bit down-at-heel (although it appears to be in the process of being redecorated). That belied the interior though as this is simply lovely. The staff were always attentive and polite while not at all intrusive (a tricky balancing act it must... More

We visited The White Oak for dinner whilst on our 'mini-moon', staying in Taplow. We found it whilst looking on Trip Advisor due to the good reviews and were certainly not disappointed! From arrival, the staff were welcoming and friendly, the atmosphere was relaxed and the food was fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed it and will be back in the future.

We have been twice for lunch & the food and service were impeccable. The menu looked a bit boring but the food, when it arrived, exceeded our expectations. Proper service from professional staff made us welcome and special. Not the cheapest but the best in Cookham by a long way.

This gastro-pub could get expensive if you choose the specials and fresh fish like the turbot available at £26. We elected to pay £21 for the 3 course Auberge menu offering at least 2 choices for each course. I had pea and mint soup, fish fingers and chocolate mousse with passion fruit. All courses very tasty, and the Cornish Ling... More

We visited as a four, for lunch on a Wednesday. The dining room is very elegant, with grey walls, wooden floors and wooden tables that are set well spart from each other - a pleasing place to enjoy a meal. We ordered a mixture of dishes from the set menu and the a-la-carte. A selection of bread was served from... More

Been here many times before and today was as good as usual. We sat in the garden and the main courses (lemon sole & ling) were lovely. My only negative thought is that as we were in the garden we felt like we were forgotten - i had to ask for bread, and for drink orders. When the bread came... More

Lovely good value mid week lunch at the White oak. The Auberge menu at lunchtime is excellent value - 2 courses for £14 or 3 for £16. Started with a fresh and tasty melon, pea and fennel salad with a lovely grain mustard dressing; next steamed ling with shrimp sauce and a potato salad; dessert was a crema catalana -... More

Had a superb Sunday lunch here and could not fault the food which was really well sourced and cooked. The staff were charming too. My starter of compressed melon and feta salad was so delicious, followed by a great roast beef - will certainly return.

Went here with a client on a weekday lunchtime. Busy but not overcrowded. The owner (mo) greeted me directly at the door. Really nice glass of wine to start. Very relaxed and not too pushy about ordering or fusing so great place for business lunch. Equally place was full of couples and families. The lemon sole main course was beautifully... More

We've been to the White Oak on two occasions now, and both have been superb. Most recently one of our diners ordered a spicy dish despite not having a high tolerance for hot food (we later found out!). The manager was very understanding and apologetic that the food wasn't to taste and immediately offered to take it off the bill,... More
