Description: Bridging the gap between country inn & local restaurant, The White Oaks has established itself as a local favourite. The White Oak is an independent and contemporary 'Gastro Pub' where the kitchen & service sets out to please, & covers all bases from pata negra ham & goats chees and walnut salads to chicken liver parfait & their signature roast chicken ravioli. For mains lots of fresh fish features including Whole Lemon sole, whole Dover Sole and Hake as well as the Suckling Pig Belly to share & daily made pies along with Aubrey Allen British Highland free-range steaks. If that's not enough the desserts tend to be classic but executed very well including creme Brulee, pannacotta and excellent brioche donuts. Set menus also offer decent value (£14/16 for two/three courses at lunch and £19/21 at dinner) running alongside the A la Carte menu. The traditional Roasts is served on Sundays alongside the A La Carte. There's also plenty of good drinking on the Corney & Barrow wine list (look for Delamotte Grand Cru Champagne, Archaval-Ferrer Malbec, & 'Psi' Tempanillo from Michael Sisseck) and a barter bin where you haggle for top end clarets (one has 98 parker points!). The dining room's taupe shades, thick pine beams, cream chandeliers and widely spaced, bare tables match the food's smart, unfussy tone, while warm, engaging staff and a compact, broadly priced wine list also fit the bill.

Had lunch with a business colleague a couple weeks ago and am happy to report that The White Oak is still operating at the top of its game. Food was excellent, so good it surprised my guest who didn't know what to expect. The service is also very attentive and they judged that we were talking business so didn't intrude... More

Fishcakes were tasty and delightfully crisp on the outside. Roast beef done exactly right (caramelised on the outside, tender and pink on the inside with marmite-y gravy and crispy roast potatoes). The lardy cake was delicious, but lies like lead in your stomach (does what it says on the tin, so don't complain!). The staff were attentive and helpful. Need... More

A delicious dinner, the food was amazing .With succulent scallops in their shell (my favorite) to venison 3 ways (my husbands favorite!),pork belly, Angus beef and the best Pannacotta ever! Every plate was a hit! The wines were great, particularly the Moscato with dessert! A real Thursday evening treat!

Unexpectedly available, seeing Dover Sole on the day's offering, tempted 3 of the group. Expensive yes, £32, but beautifully cooked and presented off-the-bone, with those gorgeous chips, it totally overwhelmed the whole lunch experience. The other main chosen was Hake, half the size and half the price, but still very nice I was told. So the message is, if fish... More

My second visit to this pub for dinner, and again the experience was very good. All courses were delicious, excellent wine, attentive but not intrusive service, a cosy warming ambience. Would definitely come again.

Visited here with colleagues in the week. Charming place, excellent food and service. The trice cooked chips and beef were excellently executed. Minor slip-up at the end when they put 4 bottles of wine on the bill instead of 3 - surely not that difficult to get right? Great Gavi, though.

Fairly average; attentive and friendly service, but portions varied considerably in size - the chicken raviolo was tiny compared to beetroot soup; the duck was not a confit as advertised but just a roast duck-leg on creamed potatoes on a very hot griddle-pan, with a very oily bowl of lettuce, and the venison shepherds' pie was a jumble of vegetables...
