Description: Bridging the gap between country inn & local restaurant, The White Oaks...
Bridging the gap between country inn & local restaurant, The White Oaks has established itself as a local favourite. The White Oak is an independent and contemporary 'Gastro Pub' where the kitchen & service sets out to please, & covers all bases from pata negra ham & goats chees and walnut salads to chicken liver parfait & their signature roast chicken ravioli. For mains lots of fresh fish features including Whole Lemon sole, whole Dover Sole and Hake as well as the Suckling Pig Belly to share & daily made pies along with Aubrey Allen British Highland free-range steaks. If that's not enough the desserts tend to be classic but executed very well including creme Brulee, pannacotta and excellent brioche donuts. Set menus also offer decent value (£14/16 for two/three courses at lunch and £19/21 at dinner) running alongside the A la Carte menu. The traditional Roasts is served on Sundays alongside the A La Carte. There's also plenty of good drinking on the Corney & Barrow wine list (look for Delamotte Grand Cru Champagne, Archaval-Ferrer Malbec, & 'Psi' Tempanillo from Michael Sisseck) and a barter bin where you haggle for top end clarets (one has 98 parker points!). The dining room's taupe shades, thick pine beams, cream chandeliers and widely spaced, bare tables match the food's smart, unfussy tone, while warm, engaging staff and a compact, broadly priced wine list also fit the bill.

Excellent lunch in lovely surroundings

Visited for lunch last week. The menu had a limited set menu to chose from but a more extensive main menu. The quality of the food was excellent which is reflected in the prices. Three courses later we were well satisfied with our lunch. The service was very attentive throughout. Well worth a visit

Friendly, efficient, and hard working staff. Always remember you, even though it might have been a few months since you last visited. Even remember your favourite drink! And that's without referring to any filed information on the customer. Absolutely lovely meal, their recent food award is very well deserved. I am a vegetarian and the meal that I was served... Very popular restaurant for a good reason. Our waitress was right on her game: unobtrusive; helpful; friendly; unrushed. The place was full to capacity but the atmosphere never moved above bustling to manic, which reflects the professionalism of the staff and kitchen. The food was excellent: classic dishes with a twist; top-notch ingredients; cooked perfectly. I can't comment on the... More

Went here for dinner and it was very nice. Quite pricey and for the amount they charge you would have expected the portion sizes to be bigger, but never mind. The food did taste really good. As long as you're not on a tight budget then I would certainly recommend.

I feel compelled to share what an amazing place this is. We went on Mothering Sunday and sat in what felt like a private dining room to the right of the bar. From the moment we entered the staff could not do enough to make our lunch memorable; in fact I am sure there was probably always one in attendance!... More

Finally got round to visiting this place after commenting for ages how nice it looked from the outside. Really nice restaurant - not too many tables & chairs, light (but not too light), and professional but friendly staff. Lunch menu (2 course) was brilliant value, and whilst I felt a couple of the main menu dishes were just a little... More

We visited your restaurant this Saturday afternoon, it was not busy. We were rather surprised to find that it took half an hour to get to our table. It seemed as though there was a shortage of competent staff. The food was just ok, nothing special, the steak was tough in parts. A mix up,over the wines! These days you... More

First time at this restaurant and must say, it was so nice to visit a place like this and for it to be so good . The food is very well done indeed. The quality, taste and presentation are excellent. We had a mixture of the set menu and a le carte which I think is great value. The staff... More

Had lunch there today with 2 girlfriends. Delicious food - all full of flavour. Staff charming and we were very well looked after. Its not cheap, but the helpings are very generous and each course was very good. Will happily go there again.
