Description: Bridging the gap between country inn & local restaurant, The White Oaks...
Bridging the gap between country inn & local restaurant, The White Oaks has established itself as a local favourite. The White Oak is an independent and contemporary 'Gastro Pub' where the kitchen & service sets out to please, & covers all bases from pata negra ham & goats chees and walnut salads to chicken liver parfait & their signature roast chicken ravioli. For mains lots of fresh fish features including Whole Lemon sole, whole Dover Sole and Hake as well as the Suckling Pig Belly to share & daily made pies along with Aubrey Allen British Highland free-range steaks. If that's not enough the desserts tend to be classic but executed very well including creme Brulee, pannacotta and excellent brioche donuts. Set menus also offer decent value (£14/16 for two/three courses at lunch and £19/21 at dinner) running alongside the A la Carte menu. The traditional Roasts is served on Sundays alongside the A La Carte. There's also plenty of good drinking on the Corney & Barrow wine list (look for Delamotte Grand Cru Champagne, Archaval-Ferrer Malbec, & 'Psi' Tempanillo from Michael Sisseck) and a barter bin where you haggle for top end clarets (one has 98 parker points!). The dining room's taupe shades, thick pine beams, cream chandeliers and widely spaced, bare tables match the food's smart, unfussy tone, while warm, engaging staff and a compact, broadly priced wine list also fit the bill.

Excellent meal

First time at this restaurant and must say, it was so nice to visit a place like this and for it to be so good . The food is very well done indeed. The quality, taste and presentation are excellent. Had lunch there today with 2 girlfriends. Delicious food - all full of flavour. Staff charming and we were very well looked after. Its not cheap, but the helpings are very generous and each course was very good. Will happily go there again.

Spent my birthday with five friends on Saturday night. We had a great night. although the restaurant was very busy the staff were very attentive. Cocktails were fab and the food even better. For me Alison was the friendliest face always smiling. She was the icing on the cake. Well done you! We will certainly be back. Thank you all

Excellent all round. Decent food, setting and service. Little too pricey though. Michelin star prices but no star as yet!

The modern but understated decor is very attractive with lovely staff that are warm and friendly and extremely helpful. Just the right amount of attentive. And then there's the food. It is simply excellent. I have eaten here many times and it is always beautifully prepared and presented. The menu changes so frequently you are never stuck for something new... More

Food was great and the service was super. Dover sole was a little rubbery but my wife had the same and hers was fine. A little expensive but a good meal and great service

A nice pub with very good service and a decent selection of wines. Our table was one in the middle of the dining room, and it felt a bit like sitting in a busy corridor. Service was very attentive but also felt very rushed. Food was excellent. Would recommend but request a table not in the centre of the room.

Two us had lunch one Sunday afternoon at the White Oak. It's located around a five minute walk from Cookham station. I had parma ham and baked cheese to start, roast pork for main course and we shared some cheese for dessert. The food was very good, particularly the pork, served with a nice array of vegetables. The service was... More

We went to the white oak for a family birthday lunch. There were 10 of us and we had a private room which was lovely and ideal with two children. The staff were friendly and attentive, the childrens menu was good and the food was delicious. The menu was varied while still having the Sunday roast, to which you could... More
