Friendly service

Visited for Sunday lunch and was relieved they had an extended menu rather than just roasts. Food was good value, brilliant portions and the service was excellent. It had a lovely atmosphere as it's not trying to be something it's not. Highly recommend if you want good pub food!

We visited on a cold January afternoon. We had telephoned ahead to enquire if dogs were allowed inside, we were informed that they were. We arrived and walked through a dreary room to the main pub. A member of staff then shouted at us that dogs aren't allowed in the main part of the pub and only in the bottom... More

This was my first visit to the Ship in twenty five years it had changed little in appearance,I visited with five colleagues for lunch on January 8th, service was prompt and friendly although the pub was quiet. I had liver and onions with mash, the liver was well cooked and the onion gravy was rich and tasty. Great views. A... More

The pub was very busy, but the staff seemed to be struggling to cope. We felt like the staff needed reminding we were there at times. Three Gaelic coffers were ordered but it was felt by the three that had them that staff weren't sure how to make them properly . I hope this occasion was a one off and... More

We visited on a cold weekend afternoon. I have been in the past (many months ago) and always enjoyed the food. The restaurant was not busy and we were made very welcome by an attentive waitress. After that things quickly deteriorated. The food was not great - roast chicken seemed to be pot-boiled and scampi was as hard as bullets.... More

Had a visit to The Ship with my parents and son in early December. The staff were more than just pleasant, they were amazingly good humoured and friendly. A credit to the place. The pub itself was comfortable, warm and inviting, with small rooms off the large bar, which gave it an almost 'smuggler's den' sort of feel, and being... More

Went one night inbetween christmas and new year. I had the chicken strips in batter for starters . They are delicious , worth going just for them then I had the steak pie . The portions were huge . Couldn't eat it all . Had a good go though . Lol will be back sometime in the new year.

Just a quick visit to North England fitting in three meals out after Christmas. First meal was at The Ship, where I had a Sunday dinner. I had Turkey as my choice of meat but Beef and Pork were on menu as well. I had plenty of meat which was ok, it came with two small Roast Potatoes and two... More

Went to The Ship having been turned away from another local establishment as they had "ran out of food"!! Best thing that could have happened. Lovely staff, great beer and fantastic food in a nice, warm environment. My partner had the chicken parmesan and I had the steak burger - fantastic portion sizes and delicious at a decent price. Will... More

i have taken my family to the ship over many years and thought i would return when visiting over Xmas, we were expecting a wait for the meal which is fine as freshly cooked but all of us found the meal s unappetizing and chips were not really cooked, hopefully its a one off , i also noticed the people...
