A strong beer in a monastery

Being in Munich and not going to Andechs to eat a a weisswurst, bretzl and drink a beer is the some that going to Rome and not see the Pope. This place is famous beacause of the church that is the oldest in Germany and of course because of the beer. It is great being in the big... read more

The bier here is fantastic. Absolutely brilliant bavarian bier. I LOVE THE BIER HERE. I have visited a number of times, the dunked (dark) bier is especially satisfying in Winter months. The food is done perfectly, if you like Bavarian food, this place is highly recommended.

My excellent score is due more to the atmosphere and the beauty of the place, than to the food itself. In the country outside Munich, on a hill, you can see this wonderful place, where you can enjoy a typical Bavarian meal and drink an excellent liter of andechs. If you happen in Munich I advise you to visit this... More

Nothing better than having excellent German beer overlooking rural farmland. Excellent mostly pork food as well. The outdoor seating is covered, so no issues with rain unlike Augustiner Keller, which seems to be closed any day there is a chance of rain. Also the walk from Herrsching is a legit hour as we walk quickly and it took us 55... More

A premier location to get out of the city for a day. Drive down to the Ammersee and walk around before heading up to the holy hill and sitting in the beergarden with a view. Have the Haxn and drink the Doppelbock, but remember to bring a designated driver!

What a blast! Tourists and locals gathered together enjoying weisswurst (the white sausage that is only served before noon), pretzels and fantastic beer. Locals gather to talk, some in traditional Bavarian clothing, dogs sit at the feet of their owners hoping for a bite of pretzel, and tourists enjoy a fantastic spread. The people are friendly, the beer flows like... More

We drove out of our way after seeing Rick Steve's enjoying Andech's! We were horribly disappointed. We ate dinner, and were stared at because we were not 'local' (it was my mother and I, not like we were a bunch of teenagers). Food was very good. We toured the chapel and then went to the gift shop, but they closed... More

After having visited the monastery, we had delicious typical german food and beer. This is now a must for people that come to visit Bavaria. Wonderful experience!

I LOVED everything about this place. Such a pleasant atmosphere and a great way to spend a day eating and drinking to your heart's content. One of my favorite memories of Europe, and certainly of Bavaria.

If you are looking for something a little off the beaten path, the Andechs Monastery in the Amersee area has some of the strongest beer I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. From the train stop, it is a pleasant walk through town and then a peaceful walk on a trail through the woods. This takes roughly half an... More
