Called in here for a pint whilst walking the Dalesway. Good selection of real ales and received a warm and friendly reception. Didn't eat here but would definitely recommend calling in for a drink.

Booth my wife and i chose this pub because we were sraying in a cotfage closeby. I was quietly impressed with the black sheep bitter which went down well. My wife had duck and chicken springs rolls which were good. I had a forkful merely for reporting purposes. We both chose the pork which was very good. A little disappointed... More

We ate in the Black Horse back in April and were terribly disappointed. We both ordered the duo of pork which comprised very small portions. We felt we had been ripped off, because the only accompaniment was again, a small portion of mashed potatoes and a few root vegetables. When the latter arrived, definitely not enough for two persons, we... More

I can understand why this restaurant is ranked 12 of 12. We are here on Saturday evening, 3rd May. We had tried to get into the Devonshire Arms hotel, but that was fully booked. Then tried the Grassington, which was packed. Then to the Black Horse Hotel: Only two other tables with diners perhaps should have been a warning. I... More

Called in the black horse after noticing they did a carvery, unfortunately the menus were swiped from under our noses which meant my brother who didn't want carvery was told in no uncertain terms that 'he could have a sandwich'. Ordering food was rather baffling as the bartender didn't seem to have a clue what he was doing having to... More

Good quality meat, wide selection of vegetables cooked just right and all kept hot without going soggy, frequent replenishment of Yorkshire puddings, lovely, thick tasty gravy, delicious selection of puddings - how could you possibly go wrong choosing to eat here???

The food is nice and the staff made up mainly of father and son are quite accomodating. The public bar is warm and friendly and there is a lovely big roaring fire to welcome you on colder days. The decor could do with a bit more updating though its fun trying to find the mice that are secretley hidden in... More

Thanks for the review, but I would like to clarify a little. Father & son? Afraid not. Update the décor? Fully refurbished 2 yrs ago, re-paint scheduled. The mice are, for clarity, put in by the plasterer and aren't real although lots of customers get enjoyment seeking them out. Slow service? Is that from the kitchen or by the serving... More

Just had a few fabulous days in the dales with excellent dining experiences until we visited the Black Horse. Originally served another couples sandwiches. Our sandwiches arrived, chicken with onion gravy my partner said it was horrible. I had the beef, well when I could find the beef. Not cheap just a rip off. Very dissapointed and we are not... More

So sorry to read this. As for it, and previous negative (and some positive) reviews, action was needed, and taken. New kitchen staff are in place and the improvements are there to see. Standards needed to be raised, and have been. However, pardon the pun, the proof of the pudding's in the eating! John Wain More

nice log stove and grassington beer was good, pleasant lady serving but let down by very average and not that nice battered fish and mushy peas. Even the second one they cooked for me was hardly a great experience, surely home made beer batter should be top notch not half baked like this.

We called in for lunch after walking near Grassington. The four of us ordered sandwiches and a beer. When the they came it was like going back 20 years to bad pub food. The bread buns were dry to touch and the coleslaw had a funny smell and there was a tiny portion of it. The barman was less than... More
