Lovely Birthday Meal

First visit and will not be the last. All four starters and mains were excellent and those that had room for desert were equally impressed. Generous portions and all homemade. Friendly staff and attentive service. All in all a lovely birthday meal

Great choice of gluten free dishes, well marked on menu. Had a beautifully cooked beer battered huge piece of cod with chips and mushy peas followed with a pear bake well and custard. Love calmly sourced lamb and uses local suppliers like Crawshaws butchers. Deserves support from people nearby as well as visitors to area

In mid April I payed another Saturday afternoon visit to the Waggon. this time I took my son and his family who had come to a campsite nearby. The pub was quite busy but we didn't have too long to wait to be served. Once again the Meat & Potato Pie with 'proper chips' was superb. I don't usually have... More

Have eaten here many times, both with and without the kids. I especially like the belly pork. Always seems quite busy and is located just off of the trans pennine trial. The staff are attentive and provided colouring books for the kids whilst we waited for our order. Lovely food and a nice atmosphere, price is as you'd expect.

Eaten there many times over the years but getting depressed withe the decor, nothing to look at needs a fire I the winter in the main room, and something on the walls to warm up the interior, the Carling Cider is the worst I've had, not a complaint of the pub but the type of cider.

Dear Michael P Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are sorry that you feel that the décor is depressing. We have repainted the whole pub, added a new colour scheme, new upholstery, curtains etc along with refurbishing the ladies and mens toilets 6 months ago. You mentioned opening the fire up in the top end... More

My wife and I decidied to pop over to have Sunday lunch at the W&H for the first time in about 9 years. The food and service were good (it was a typical Sunday roast, but the vegetables and yorkshire puddings were freshly cooked) but we left the place feeling slightly underwhelmed by the experience. Essentially, we just thought that... More

I visited this pub on the Thursday evening prior to Mother's Day so as to avoid the crowds. The pub is a traditional country pub and feels like a small local. Things got off to a good start with well kept Timothy Taylor Landlord Ale. The young-ish bar staff were cheerful, helpful and welcoming and it immediately felt like a... More
