Local pub - very good food

The food that was produced for us does not match the exterior of the pub - if you see what I mean! The food is truly excellent and what I would expect from a top end restaurant - not the local! We shall be returning!

Visited The Bell a number of times mostly for a pint and lunch. Always had excellent food and a great pint. Service is top notch. Menu choice is excellent. Highly recommended.

We dropped by on a very busy Saturday night. We hadn't booked but the staff squeezed us in on a tiny table by the door for which we were grateful as we were hungry by the time we arrived. I would definitely recommend you book in advance as it was packed! My partner and I ordered pumpkin soup to start... More

Great 1st meal here, after 11 years in nearby village. Fish night was sold out - we came with work colleagues and had waiter service and 2 courses of great quality fish dishes for £19.95 before drinks. Good Crab and sweetcorn chowder, Salmon roulade starters, and fish trio of Place, scallops and red snapper for mains...really great. No room for... More

We've been twice recently despite living nearby for 12 years - just wish we'd found it earlier. The food is fantastic - properly home cooked and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. The waitress is brilliant and the landlady really welcoming. Go and try it - there are lots of other activities too in this little pub, organised... More

The pub is located on a hilltop in the old village of Purleigh (not actually in Maldon) and there are distant views across the Blackwater estuary from the outside seating. It has a lovely old-fashioned feel and we had a warm welcome from the the staff behind the bar. Lunch was well cooked and promptly served by a charming young... More
