Pub by the River

We use this pub fairly regularly especially during the summer months as it is right beside the river. Beer is good - they have a lot of guest ales and the restaurant is also pleasant although it is now some while since we have eaten here. Good traditional Sunday lunch with calorific puddings ☺️ Plenty of mint sauce for the delicious roast lamb, crunchy roasties and fresh veg. Do book and if like us you do then you can get great views up the Hythe from the restaurant. This is a busy pub and busy restaurant on a Sunday well worth a visit .

we arrived at lunch timed and ordered some drinks. Tried to open a "tab". No chance. So offered the usual credit card but this did not meet the minimum amount so dug out cash. Not a good start. We then ordered some sandwiches. The total of the sandwiches and drinks would have put us well into the credit card "zone".... More

Ate here with 3 friends on a fairly busy Saturday lunchtime. We all ate mains from the specials board and we're all very pleased with our choices. 3 of our party had cheeseboard after (I opted for a chocolate brownie) and we were pleasantly surprised by the plate that arrived for £5. The choice of beer is excellent and the... More

Lovely local, lovely beer, good atmosphere, friendly staff, locals and dogs. Didn't eat but the food looked good. In the summer it must be lovely with lots of tables on the seafront

Heard that the fish and chips here were brilliant but was bitterly disappointed. The chips were ok, nothing special, whereas the fish had a strange taste. You could taste that it was frozen. The batter on it was nice but it did not help to mask the horrible freezer taste. Not to mention it was ridiculously overpriced, 10 pounds for... More

Great food in the summer but Christmas pretty awful. Stick to outside eating, particularly cod and chips can't go wrong. Christmas menu avoid

Have just had a nice evening ruined by our visit here. We are hosting a French student who wanted to try fish and chips so we thought how nice it would be to take her here for a real English pub experience as the location is lovely. On entering, my husband was immediately told that there was no space by... More

The service was quite slow last weekend when we visited (especially with children in the party) but the food was worth waiting for. My seafood stew was the best I have tasted and we had a lovely view of the river too.
