lovely location

We spent a lovely hour or so sitting outside with a view across the estuary, having a pint of shandy and eating fish and chips, with our dog at our feet. Very pleasant. The pub/restaurant is busy, but the service is as efficient as it can be when a place is so popular.

I went there with my wife last weekend and it was absolutely rammed out. It was obviously popular, but we were lucky enough to get a seat outside. There were lovely views of the river although the tide was out (I don't think this was the management's fault). Considering how busy it was, the food came promptly and was of... More

3 of us had been walking along The Hythe and looking at the lovely old river barges on a glorious afternoon. We were fortunate and managed to park on the Quayside. We went to the Queens head and sat outside overlooking the estuary and the moored boats and spent a really enjoyable couple of hours chatting, drinking and having a... More

Went with friends. Could not get a table by the window but some of us had a view of the river. The food was fine. I had scampi and chip, one fish and chip, one goats cheese and another curry . It is pleasant in there. It was busy due to Father's Day .

Fathers Day Lunch, with my Wife, Son, his Wife and two Grandchildren. It was very busy , as it was Fathers Day but even so, it was very disappointing, we ordered at 12.20pm and the meals did not arrive 'till gone1pm ! The three Haddock and Chips , were all watery and could not be finished. Of the two Omelettes... More

The Queens Head is a unique pub which is and always has been based around locals which is quite right but has also carved out a reputation which reaches far wider than Maldon built on consistently excellent food which is very good value too, plus a great atmosphere, which is enjoyed by all. The beer on tap is largely local... More

Went here on a bank holiday weekend evening. It was ever so busy, and at first I didn't like it, but the staff worked hard, there were plenty of them and they knew what they were doing. Great selection of real ales reasonably priced. It was very busy with families eating, but as they began to move off the pub

Ate here today for lunch with friends. We were quite earlier so not busy and got a table no problem outside. Food was really lovely! Mini fish and chips for one child and sausage and chips for the other and both ate every bite and said was really tasty. I had a triple decker chicken sandwich on granary and it... More

I live in Maldon and work near the Quay, take it from me, this is the best one. The food is good with sizeable portions, you won't get a better pint anywhere else in the town and the view is up there with the best of them. It can get busy, so be prepared.
