Set right on the river at Sunbury, so the outside seating is perfection if a little cramped. Food was typical pub grub, sandwiches with chips, excellent coffee, not much to criticise but nothing special. Staff nice but when I mentioned the 'Ladies' was in total darkness and no light switch in evidence - no one seemed bothered. Took a peek... More

This Pub/Restaurant was an accidental find. A very happy accident. Super food, great service and a lovely location. The River terrace was fullish but not crowded, but this was a Monday after all. I don't know when JimT999 went but we had a very nice time.

Had a lovely lunch with family and friends, young and old, as part of a day trip on our boat. Mooring easily accessible on the pub's river frontage.

Had Sunday lunch at the Magpie yesterday. The service was friendly and efficient. The Sunday roasts were all very good - plenty of food but not massive. The vegetables were great - not the bowl of microwaved peas and carrots you so often get in pubs. Cooked beetroot was a pleasant change. The atmosphere - we ate in the bar... More

My wife and I went to The Magpie with the previous reviewer having been told the management and chef had changed. Unfortunately, meals hadn't. It is now part of Metropolitan Pubs as opposed to Capital Pubs previously, both are Greene King owned. The upstairs restaurant was very quiet with only two other couples and a group of three ladies and... More

My wife and friends were regular patrons of this once great hostilely. Unfortunately after the menu was changed last year from what used to be good choice and quality to expensive with limited restaurant style small portions. So we voted with our feet and stopped using this pub or restaurant ?? My concerns fell on deaf ears with the management,... More

My wife and I have used this Pub/Hotel for a number of years and the management has changed hands to many times to count so the service and quality have varied from good to terrible. The present Management ( August 2014) are friendly the service is good but in my opinion food is a little expensive for "pub grub" and... More

Our friend was over from Hawaii for a visit and he asked to visit a good local pub that served good old fashioned pub type food, well that's what the Magpie used to serve when we lasted visited several months ago. The food menus are quite limited now and not really that great, however that said the food served was... More

4th time at this pub, nice setting and an ok pub, though food prices expensive for quality of food. Today I had what can only be described as the worst sandwich I've eaten. I£8 for a sandwich (with no sides) filled with chicken sinew and skin is ridiculous. It's a shame as the pub has potential.

My first visit to the Magpie as part of an evening out with colleagues was pleasant enough but I have been to better pubs. The food was ok and to the restaurant's credit very plentiful but my chips looked a little sorry for themselves and were dry and tasteless. Unfortunately though there was 12 of us one person had to... More
