Amazing experience!!

It's a pity the owner couldn't stay for the whole meal as he seemed to be really passionate about his food, but he left us in his daughter's good hands. We were treated to a variety of dishes - cheeses, barley, meats and desserts - which are typical of the Garfagnana region. The restaurant itself is quite small, simple and... More

If paper plates and refectory tables sound off-putting, don't go, you wont be missed. We went back to Castelnuovo just to visit this restaurant again. This is a Mecca for the very best in hams, salumi and local cheeses. There is also a very impressive selection of wines. I can think of no other place quite like it, you either... More

Highly recommend for a real authentic taste phone Tuscany - not ' made to be real for tourists ' . Gorgeous drive up from Florence. I do wish we could spent more time here but we left it too close to the end of the day :(

Got referred from local Italian for just a glass of wine and snacks ended up hanging around for dinner as well. Great food, great wines by the glass and full bottle and last but not least great atmosphere provided by the owners example. Andrea has great knowledge about food and wine pairing and makes you feel welcome even with low... More

We wandered into Vecchio Mulino mid morning on a visit to Castelnuovo market. As often happens, a group of men were holding parliament and we wondered if this was a good place for 5 women. Andrea, the host, warmly welcomed us and showed us their private tasting room and told us about their local produce. He booked us in for... More

Situated in the historic centre of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, you seem to be entering a different world, full from floor to ceiling and wall to wall with fascinating old curios and an amazing array of fine old wines and gourmet foodstuffs. The extensive tasting plate of regional hams, cheeses and assorted spreads is enough to tantalise the most demanding palates.... More

4 of us had the "degustazione" menu for lunch at Vechhio Mulino today. Lovely bruschette with powerfully tasting toppings - funghi, smoked trout, truffle, and pesto; a plate of selected local cold meats; another with local cheeses and mamellate; and a delicious farro salad. Then a slice of one of the homemade dolce. All washed down with a bottle of... More

Stunning tasting session for the adults. Kids were harder to please but they put up with us oldies treating ourselves. Will go again for this understated resto-deli. You WILL buy something from the alimentare and I hope it tastes as good back home as it does here. Tasting session = taste sensation.
