Kind of meal you remember forever

I read about the restaurant and inn in a NY Times article, and my mother and I made a point of experiencing both on a recent trip to the Bordeaux area of southwestern France. It was everything I'd hoped it would be and more. The setting is a fairy tale, the service was superb, but most of all the... read more

We took the degustation menu. It was beautifully prepared and presented, but I probably wouldn't do it again. Very expensive, and for me had too many flavours fighting for top position. Something a little more simple - but that's just me.

We stayed at L'auberge Basque one full week last summer and we will surely come back next year- The location is just outside St Jean de Luz well located in the country side not too far from golf courses -The rooms are nice and cosy and very quiet..! We arrived late afternoon and had our first dinner at the restaurant... More

Dinner, as always, was superb. The food is imaginative with tremendous taste. The local wines were wonderful. Breakfast the next morning was wonderful.

We were completely taken aback by our stay at this wonderful place! Located away from the frenetic coastal towns overflowing with summer crowds, the Auberge Basque sits quietly at the top of a hill with a gorgeous mountain vista and lush gardens to loll about in. The room we had was on the small side (one of the rooms with... More

Lovely location and grounds. Wonderful breakfast- but we did have to persuade them to give us breakfast included as we had paid for it and it was on our paperwork and not on theirs. I think we were given the disabled room downstairs. it was quite small and had rather a strangely organised wet room which didn't really slope to... More

Excellent service and food. Each dish had a level of 'wow'. The treats of the palette cleansers right through to the final course were beautiful. The teas were beautifully presented and accompanied. My advice is to get there.

We were expecting a good meal, but you surprised us with quite beautiful and wonderfully tasting dishes, a most delicious meal!!! We dined at L'Auberge Basque on the 15th evening of a trip which was a food and wine extravaganza ... mostly Michelin 1-star restaurants, and a 3-star. At L'Auberge Basque we had 3 of the most memorable dishes of... More

Our second visit to this wonderful restaurant was every good as our first last year! The setting, with the mountains and hills as a backdrop calms the senses as the sun slowly sets through the trees with the wide rear of the restaurant open to the elements. The staff are fun and attentive and the arrival of four amuse-bouches before... More

The food, the service, the location, the friendly staff, the wine. A unique dining experience. Let the staff choose your food. We did. It was the right decision
