Very friendly landlord/land lady and we always feel welcomed. Food is generally good but Sunday lunches are fab! Portion sizes are generous and they don't skimp on veggies -which we love! Only small snag, sometimes service can be a little slow but that said, we love the place!

I've previously heard not good things about this pub due to the previous occupants but I thought I'd try it out as it had been taken over. It's safe to say I'm glad I did! We were welcomed straight away by a lovely lady (later found out she was the landlady when she came to talk to us) we were... More

Popped in for the first time having pasted on lots of occasions whilst motorcycling in weardale. Must say the staff and host were all so help full informing us that we could eat in any of the rooms. We opted for the lounge and all three of us had Sunday lunch which was faultless and great value for the price.... More

Called in on a drive through Weardale. First time we have been but will go again. Present tenant has only been in ten weeks and is working hard to raise standards. Friendly host who went out of her way to accomodate. We both had daily specials, goujon of cod for myself, lasagne for my wife. Both were excellent , portions... More

We visited for a drink mid afternoon on a Wednesday. We were the only customers but the staff were friendly and the atmosphere was inviting. With 2 dogs in tow we headed straight to the beer garden where a bowl of water was provided. Unfortunately we were plagued by wasps and the garden was only an unsightly yard so we... More

We have driven through for years but this time stopped, nice pub with simple menu, in that its easy to understand, I had the belly pork on black pudding with an apple sauce, what can I say the black pudding was moist and tasty but the belly pork was sublime just caremalised enough to give flavour and the crackling was... After a poor experience the last time we were in the Black Bull, we heard it had changed hands and thought that we would give it another go. Can only say that we have no regrets about this decision. Back in the hands of a previous member of staff who understandsthe likes and dislikes of locals and tourists I can... More

Too disappointing to even assess the quality of food. Arrived just after at 12.30pm with wife and 2 children (aged 5 and 2). Few customers in and we were asked to sit in the rear dining area of the pub where no other parties were present. At 12.35pm our drinks and food order was taken. By 13.10, 3 customers came... More
