Lovely find

After a lovely day at Scotney Castle we stumbled upon this lovely old pub which has charm, character and a well needed roaring fire. We had some lunch - I had a lovely vegetable soup (home made) with warm bread and butter (That wasn't frozen solid so easy to spread) My partner had marinated... read more

Called in after a local walk and enjoyed a good value meal in very comfortable and relaxed surroundings. The Spitfire beer was not available and there was only one other choice.

We stopped in for afternoon tea. It might not have been the best time to visit at New Year because the food didn't seem that fresh. The scones, which didn't come with jam or cream, could have bounced and the chocolate cake was very greasy. The hot chocolates did not appear to be made with milk either, although the marshmallow... The service at the bar wasn't great, in fact the barman seemed more interested in chatting to people than serving us and couldn't seem to grasp that the gas had gone on the soda pump and everything was flat, however, they were very accommodating with regard to us having a dog with us and once we went to eat the... We just searched by location and found this pub for a late lunch. Friendly service, cosy pub. We were quite hungry so ordered a lot. The ladies kindly reminded us that the burger would be quite big portion. She was right! We had a nice meal and break.

We went for a pensioners special deal Christmas lunch which was excellent value and a delicious meal. It was a pity that several of the main course choices weren't available. This suggests to me that perhaps food is not home-made? Nevertheless everyone found something to their liking and enjoyed what they got.

Good beer, very good food, good and very friendly service. Clearly popular with locals in the know. Will definitely eat there again.

Spent the evening here at a Christmas party. I need Gluten Free meals and I was really looked after well. The food here is very good and the staff really nice. A great evening and we will be back.

In September a group of us walked to Lamberhurst and came to the Chequers for Sunday Lunch. What a find! The landlady was friendly and made sure our large group were served quickly and had everything we needed before we went to walk another 5 miles. A lot of pubs don't really like walkers and when I find a pub... More
