After an horrendously tiring 7-hour drive, we called in at the Brown Trout for a meal, as it was getting late and close to to time when pubs stop serving food. The staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful, and we were served immediately. The menu has a wide of meals, including 'exotic' meats, and I decided to go for the... More

Dropped in for lunch. Spacious areas for eating, including comfy sofas for relaxing and drinking. Menu rather limited for a vegetarian, however I enjoyed a huge bowlful of grilled halloumi salad, very tasty. The music was a little too loud, but the staff were more than willing to turn it down when asked - very accommodating in meeting the needs... More

August 8th - the three of us arrived having made a reservation for 7.30pm. Staff were pleasant enough and showed us to our table which was not particularly clean. Waited a long time before being able to get the attention of a staff member to take our order. About a quarter of an hour after placing our order the staff... More

Had lunch here with friends and godchildren (aged 10 to 19). The pub has a great atmosphere, rather like being in someone' house with cosy corners, sofas, lovely large round tables for groups, books, magazines. Menu varied and we all enjoyed our meals. The waitress was so helpful as all of us asked her to help us choose our food!... More

What started off to be a promising start - shown to our reserved table and drinks order taken- we then had to prompt for menus. We waited over an hour for our food which was blamed on the spatchcock chicken which we should have told took 30 mins. What turned up was not a spatchcock chicken but a lump of... More

We are very sorry to read your review. Your comments have been shared with the kitchen, who have now removed the spatchcock chicken from the menu. We are aware of the waiting times this item caused, and can only apologise it affected your meal. Our carvery is one of most popular dishes, so I do hope the rest of your... More

Thank you for your positive feedback. So glad your enjoyed yourselves. We have recently changed to our new summer menu, so hopefully it will be a bit more extensive next time you come back. The fish and chips is very popular...fresh everyday and helped by the tasty beer batter! We look forward to seeing you again soon... More

We have been here a few times recently for lunch. The food is brilliant & the wait is never that long even when busy. There is plenty of space to sit outside when its sunny & the staff are always very friendly

Taken here by friends on a visit to nearby Scotney Castle. Friendly, accommodating staff, a charming but unpretentious atmosphere and a wide ranging menu to suit all appetites. I can thoroughly recommend the steak pudding, being one of the largest and most solidly filled I've ever had in my 67 years of enthusiastic eating ! It is a 'real ale'... More
