A taste to remember

We visited El Silbo yesterday, taking a small break from a bicycle ride around La Gomera. It was lunch time and we sat at the lovely little terrace with a nice view of the scenery. In need of a little energy (and of wifi connection) we ordered fresh orange juice, almogrote -the local delicacy... read more

We had a really nice meal here and the owner was great, he made us feel really welcome and talked us through the menu. The food was fantastic a real taste of local cuisine. The total bill was 2 courses and wine was only 32 euros, so real value.

Possibly influenced bu being very draughty on a cold evening, but was not one of the best we tried. There seemed to be a bit of a clique of people using the place, who tended to get more attention - but we were far from ignored and quite enjoyed the visit. Nothing much to criticise, but just not overwhelming. Only... More

You can get authentic canarian dishes in this place . The goat (yes , goat) was wonderful , cooked in wine and similar indeed to a nice oxtail or to a boeuf bourgignon . We ate also good fried eggplant with palmhoney and a really tasty , spicy tuna . The place is absolutely not ellegant , romantic or picturesque... More

We heard about this restaurant too (in addition to « El Puerto ») so we went over there to discover “typical dishes”. The first thing appealing is the atmosphere : the dining room is opened to the valley, and there’s quite nice plants in the room. I concur, this is not a 5 stars hotel dining room, but it is... A quirky little place that the locals seem to enjoy, too. We asked initially for the TV to be turned down as there were people watching a REALLY loud programme in the bar. Once that was sorted, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal.

The menu is quite large, making it difficult to choose. Also some good vegetarian options and fresh fish. We did not try the pizza, but it looked delicious. Very friendly and quick service. The waiter was always smiling and making little jokes. He even invited us for a drink the next day when we met him in town! We went... More

We visited this restaurant on our last night on holiday. There seem to be about 8 or 9 places to eat in the area if you include the nearby village of Agulo. We were based quite high up so unless you fancied a long walk, a taxi was the best bet for us. Having eaten at 3 or 4 restaurants... More

Our experience was quite different from the previous reviewer's. We liked the setting of the restaurant and found the service cheerful and efficient. The food was much the same as most other restuarants in the area, offering basic local dishes at reasonable prices.

We had a wonderful stay in Hermigua, feeling that we had found a true diamond of a place. No restaurant hawkers or restaurants with pictures of food. We went self catering and as El Silbo was the only restaurant in our area we waited to give it a try. From the outset the staff were rude, bullied us to sit... More
